There's only one way to say it. It's the only way we'll ever say it.
The good news is it looks like Canadians agree. A winner has been declared in the war on Christmas.
In Monday's Sun, columnist Simon Kent drew our attention to an Angus Reid Global poll.
Respondents were asked if they preferred the term "Holiday Season" or "Christmas."
The resounding winner? Christmas! With 83% of the votes.
But hang on. Some polls differ.
In the United States, the Public Religion Research Institute found "Season's Greetings" and "Happy Holidays" has taken over "Merry Christmas."
When asked if stores and businesses should give neutral greetings "out of respect for people of different faiths" 49% agreed. 43% disagreed.
The same survey from 2010 indicated the reverse -- that 44% agreed and 49% disagreed.
In other words, Americans are becoming more politically correct. We wonder what the exact same survey done in Canada would conclude.
This is all bogus though. Christmas doesn't offend anyone. Who are these politically correct killjoys who think you can't say Merry Christmas just because someone of a different religion might be in the room?
Besides, in our society people have Christmas off work. Shops and banks are closed. It's a time for togetherness.
The group American Atheists is leading the charge in New York City. They've put up a billboard in Times Square reading "Who needs Christ during Christmas? Nobody."
Well sorry to burst your humbug bubble. But despite half of the PRRI survey respondents being politically correct, 73% still said they celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday. So apparently three-quarters of the population need Christ during Christmas.
Deal with it, American Atheists. And besides, what's it to you? Can't we all get along?
In the Angus Reid Global poll, 51% of Canadians said they celebrate Christmas for religious reasons. But 94% said they'll enjoy a Christmas dinner.
We take this to mean even people who aren't going to church to celebrate the birth of Jesus will still get into the Christmas spirit and honour the tradition. The more the merrier!
Sure, we're a diverse country. But Christmas is for everyone.
So to all Canadians, from the Sun Media family to yours: Merry Christmas!

I would like to see them try that here in the Philippines.
They would quickly learn what it is like to be crucified.
I bought a gift card at Sur la table, was waited on by a Muslim woman... She gave me the most sincere Merry Christmas I have had all year..... Very nice woman with the warmest smile. All is not lost...
So, I always initiate it knowing the employee most likely was told not to say it.
You just gave me my smile for the day !
For Dec 25 and this whole period I celebrate “Christmas” not “holiday”. Happy holidays—what holiday? How about if we went around in mid January and said “Happy holiday!” “You mean Happy Martin Luther King Day?”—— “Ah who cares, it’s just another day off with pay.” If we said Happy Holiday in mid March, doesn’t that take the meaning away from St Patrick’s Day? Gee I wouldn’t want to offend someone would I?
I tell libs I am being TOLERANT by saying Merry Christmas because that’s the name of the holiday. I’ll say Happy Chanukah, and all the others, too.
I sign all emails to my clients with “Merry Christmas.” If any of them are offended, then they no longer need the (considerable) benefit of my services. Period.

I have enjoyed saying “Merry Christmas” this season, since my holiday already happened.,Christmas is the only real holiday this year. Don’t give me any kwanza crap. Don’t know a single person who celebrates that, and I pass by the school where karenga the torturer teaches. So it’s not a holiday to me.
Has any Muslim or other non-believer ever refused a “Christmas bonus?”

I say Merry Christmas and I don’t celebrate it, at least not its true meaning(last time I did so, the first George Bush was president).
“Merry Christmas!” - in the short span of 5 minutes, in the office where I’m working this morning, among truckers, auto mechanics, manufacturing tradesmen - a regular bunch of guys in an ordinary place, on planet earth, in the Year of Our Lord 2013 this happy and clear spoken phrase has rung out not fewer than seven times. Among the salt of the earth here in the cold north nothing has changed, no offense was taken, nobody went away with the plan to attack us with lawyers, superiors, or other intrusive challenges for sharing these sentiments, using this phrase. Hearing it in this setting is nothing short of a miracle, a feeling that among the common men of this country nothing the blowhards and liberals might do will ever change us.

Matthew 1:18-25

Luke 1:26-35

17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
