You think the other ones aren’t going to spy on you?

Laptops work well. You can have chromecast. ROKU3 is a great choice, for WIFI or Wired. Wired is really fast, movies come up in two seconds.

If you like to shop online Amazon Prime is a bargain for what you get. Plus they have a lot of freebie streaming TV and movies. I also have Netflix. Hulu’s commercials are too annoying. I can’t imagine paying for them getting Hulu+.

Oh, you ought to try “New Tricks”! It’s a great British series, 9 seasons. We love it!

We watch primarily Netflix via ROKU. ROKU offers numerous stations, including Hulu.

We prefer Netflix. Their filtering system based on your ratings eventually filter out fag stuff and other things a person does not want to see. Our trial of Hulu put all the stuff we thought of as offensive in our face to pick from.

ROKU offers Crackle and a hundred or so other channels.

There was a rumor Turner Classic was to put out a channel for ROKU for about 5 bucks a month. IMO it would be worth it as that channel was one of the few we ever watched on cable.

We plan on getting Chromecast so we can watch internet TV, such as CBS recently aired shows like The Mentalist, Castle or the many others on the net.

Cable/satellite IMO is on it’s way out. A la carte programming could save them, but I do not see it coming.

One nice thing about Chromecast is the ability to cast a tab in Chrome onto the TV.

So let’s say you are in Chrome and you go to CBS to watch a show online in your browser.

Simply cast the tab to Chromecast, go Full Screen, and Boom...There you go.

"If you like to shop online Amazon Prime is a bargain for what you get."

And you can share your Amazon Prime free-shipping benefits (but not video streaming) with up to 4 family members or coworkers. See here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/?nodeId=200444180

We have a Roku 2 XDS that's apparently seen better days. It's starting to lock up and self-reboot in the middle of movies now. It's only a year and a half old! I have it hardwired to my Gig-E switch on the main floor. (Each floor of my house has an 8 port Gig-E switch.)

May have to bite the bullet and upgrade to the Roku 3.

Roku also has MLB Network! I watch the Chicago White Sox games on mine during the season. The “season ticket” on MLB.Com was someething like $108. A bargain IMO versus having to pay for Cable TV then upgrade to get hte Sports networks.....

"There was a rumor Turner Classic was to put out a channel for ROKU for about 5 bucks a month."

Do you mean Warner Archive Instant, which appears to have the same film library? Or the real TCM?

TCM for $5/month would be a great deal.

Netflix original shows are some of the best TV being made.

I like to thank everyone for your responses. I do not watch much regular television. More into movies. From the replies, Hulu+ seems to have too many commercials. How far back in movies can u get off of Netflix?

How would you get your local news? Would you just do ultra-basic package through cable/satellite or just get a hi-def antennae and pray you get something that way?

I mean, I like the idea of Chromecast/Roku/etc... just haven’t decided yet and if I can answer that local question, then I think the wife is on board, too.

The Netflix movie supply varies depending on who they have contracts with, a bunch of stuff is expiring in the next week, but more will come. If you’re gunning primarily for movies don’t forget Amazon Prime, not only do you get the streaming content but free next day shipping, their TV content sucks but the movie list is pretty good.

If you live in a large metro area, and your had antenna doesn’t work, try Aereo....$8/month on Roku.
