Saw the “Lion King” Broadway show (it was fantastic). Also saw a group called “Rain” who do a very presentable impersonation of the Beatles, from their early days, through to the Let it Be days. They were also very good and very believable.

I currently have three liveaboard neighbors who are musicians, plus a retired disc jockey with an enormous musical library...so I don’t have to go anywhere.

It was a light year but fun, Devo, The Dropkick Murphies, Ian Anderson and Black Sabbath. Next year is starting well with my favorite bar band The Young Dubliners coming to town in January and The Straits in March.

Weird Al. I thought he would be great live; I completely under-estimated the experience. Had the fringe benefit of being a show that I could take my seven-year-old girl to as well. She loved him too.

"Americans don't like music today, they prefer noise."

Some of the classic performers from the past are still around doing concerts. But, I agree, music, as well as many other things, including most of the TV shows, have dropped like a stone over the past few decades, quality speaking. Even the cartoons suck today. Automobiles all now resemble European imports. Give me the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Sure, from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. You can keep all the crap that came afterwards. And it's not an "age thing", the music simply sucks today.

If you don't mind, how old are you?

Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell in a show that pretty much covered their careers from the early 70s up to today (and Richard Thompson opened for them).

Saw Alan Jackson on the day George Jones died. Jones was his friend and idol, and Jackson choked back the tears to deliver a heartfelt version of ‘He Stopped Loving Her Today’, which was worth the price of admission just by itself.

The good thing about both the shows, aside from the fact they featured artists with actual talent, was that excellent seats were available for really reasonable prices, something hard to find if you go to a show featuring the latest flash-in-the-pan pre-fab ‘stars’.

Million Dollar Quartet +1

Saw the show at Harrah's last August...awesome!

The national tour plays at UT-Tyler on February 13, an early 12th birthday present for my son.

My 3YO grandson's favorite song is "See You Later Alligator".

I am 55. I never listen to the radio anymore and I Don’t follow the top 40. Have never heard of most of the artists who hit the charts. I am into mostly Americana type stuff: folk, bluegrass, country rock, county soul. So much good stuff. Lots of boring crap as well, granted.

Saw Yes, Musical Box & Renaissance at Yestival

Saw Burning Bridget Cleary at Celtic Fest

Saw Stereofidelics, & a slew of cover bands doing 60’s Britpop at Musikfest

Yestival was the only concert ticket I bought - the rest were open to the public.

"bluegrass, country rock, county soul"

To tell you the truth, I basically gave up on country music a few decades ago. But I'm sure as you say, that there are some good people around these days in that arena. It's definitely more likely to come from there than from pop or anywhere else today.

I personally like a wide range of music from the past, including classic rock (Stones, Led Zep, Journey, etc), classic soul (Motown, Sam Cooke, Righteous Bros, etc), classic country (Merle Haggard, Bobby Bear, Conway Twitty), doo wops (Dion & the Belmonts, Duprees, Johnny Maestro, etc), and even some of the old crooners, like Dean Martin.
