A hologram machine will receive the image and beam it using a laser projector on to a screen of water vapour, which gives the image its third dimension.
The hologram image will speak, move and listen in real time. The company also believes its invention will be on the market within five years.
Our holograms will take video- phone calls to the next level, said Marcin Panek, chief executive of Leia Display Systems.

no thank you.
Hologram of what?
May bring new meaning to “sexting”
Help us grammy gram, you’re our only hope.
Every technological advance is first used for porn.
Our company once had a customer who was very angry about the performance of a product. Their engineering manager insisted that we do a weekly video conference because he wanted to see the looks on our faces as he tore into us.
He would have loved this idea.
I wont do face time or Skype....why would I want to make it worse with 3d????
I prefer not to have to check my nose for hanging boogers or see if my hair is combed (both of my hairs) or put on clothes, before making 99.9% of calls....

Case in point - the videophone never took off and I think visual interwebz like Skype and Hangout get limited use. I know I was using Hangout for a while but got tired of it.
I have a phone that can do ‘facetime’. Have had it for way over a yr now. Used facetime exactly 0 times for the reasons you stated. lol

Laz, how did you...?
I am the target demographic. I hate talking verbally on phones and have never, ever touched the video feature.
I would never use it either. I prefer texting for short conversations. Whoever posted earlier about sexting is correct. There will be tons of nude images all over the place.
Many of which will be illegal.
There once was a client from ‘Frisco
Who constantly wanted to disco,
He’d always sashay,
In a very gay way,
While covered completely with Crisco
