Parents call police for help, cops show up and kill their 18-year-old son
The Daily Caller ^ | 1-5-2014 | Robby Soave

Two North Carolina parents are in shock after local police shot and killed their 18-year-old son in their own home, while they watched helplessly.

The family called police because they were worried about their son, Keith Vidal, who is schizophrenic and suffers from depression, according to local news. Vidal, armed with a small screwdriver, was apparently having a psychotic episode. Mark Wilsey, Vidal’s father, called the authorities to help deal with the situation.

An officer from the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and another from the Boiling Spring Lakes police department showed up to the house soon after. Eventually, a third officer from the Southport police department entered the home as well, and ordered the use of tasers to subdue Vidal. According to Wilsey, Vidal was pinned on the ground by two of the officers when a third said, “we don’t have time for this,” and shot Vidal, killing him.

Vidal had just turned 18, and weighed a mere 90 pounds. He couldn’t have hurt anyone with the screwdriver, and had no history of violence according to family and friends.

“There was no reason to shoot this kid,” said Wilsey in a statement. “They killed my son in cold blood. We called for help and they killed my son.”

After her son was killed, Vidal’s mother suffered a mental breakdown and was treated by medical staff.

The New Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office told The Daily Caller that no statement has been released yet, but the district attorney and state investigators are looking into the shooting.

A similar thing happened to a Georgia family in October. (RELATED: Family calls 911 for medical help, cops show up and kill son)

That old thing about “men in white coats” taking away crazy people, was it ever real, and if so, why did it stop?

“The family said police shot Vidal because he had a screwdriver in his hand. They said it was a tiny screwdriver that would not have hurt anyone. “

If he wasn’t going to hurt anyone (he was attacking his mother with the screwdriver according to the step-father)) why did they call police instead of a doctor?! Now, they are blaming the police.

The kid tried to get up and run when he heard they were going to taser him according to reports. He wasn’t just laying there, he was fighting them with a screwdriver in his hand.

“I too find it hard to believe an officer would willingly shoot a kid that’s down for no reason at all.”

Cops should be trained in conflict resolution, something BTW that comes mothers and Nuns in Catholic schools know instinctively.

If they can’t deal with conflict other than with lethal force, they don’t belong on the force. If two officers are on top of a 90 pound kid and can’t subdue him... Never mind, that’s just crazy.

The last bill that JFK made law was to empty the mental hospitals, it took a while for the system to change around the nation and the lawyers to enforce the law with their lawsuits, but it did come to create the homeless that you see wandering the streets talking to themselves.

“Neighbors on the scene told WECT that Vidal played with their children and he never was violent. They said he had a history of depression and schizophrenia, but he was never harmful to others.”

I think I remember neighbors and friends saying the same thing about Adam Lanza and he murdered a school full of children.

Your little jackboots never lie!!? Your little jackboot’s rages never get on tape by their own damn cameras!!? You think they are concerned with a stretch in the can? What world do you live in? I never said that the family is right here, they could be all full of it for all I know but you, like your fellow knee jerk jackboot lickers, think they are never wrong so you just gotta jump right in and slam the grieving family with your premise. Wait until the rest of the story is heard before you condemn the family. Get lost cop-sucker.

The moment that call is made all control over that situation by the caller is lost

A young adult was living with us when they accidently ate something they shouldn't have and immediately threw up. It really was one of those wacky accidents. Just to make sure, we called the hospital on-call nurse who assured us everything was fine and we all had a good laugh. Four days later, this adult called mama and told her the funny story. Mama freaked and called every agency under the sun. The cops and the health department called our house wanting to start a full blown investigation and make a home visit so I spent the whole afternoon talking them out of it. Then I let loose on stupid idiot moron mama. Did she really want to have this non-event turn into a 48 hour stay at the mental clinic and her little precious carry around a suicide attempt record forever or somehow get arrested? Sure, that'll look real good at the next college scholarship board and on every job application. And not to mention we'd be investigated, too. All over a minor split second oopsie that happened 4 days before, sigh. Some people are just too stupid.

Says the guy sitting at home, without any actual hard evidence of what happened, who just got done telling me that “lying” is basic for all police officers.

People with a pathology shouldn’t swing screwdrivers or post on internet forums.

Calm down, a normal person might suspect that someone has an irrational hatred for police officers based on a post like this.

” I never said that the family is right here, they could be all full of it for all I know “

Then stop spamming me with your posts. Or share them on DU or on the Daily Paul where convicting police officers or George Zimmerman types in the media is actually encouraged. Here, amongst adults, we don’t emote over things we don’t actually have any hard evidence on, and we avoid irrational generalizations against Freepers in Law enforcement or their families.

There seems to be an incident like this in the news every couple of days.

Pretty soon, if you call the police you will very likely be charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

mine is too, retired. after 20 years or more many cops get jaded, cynical and calloused. for some it can’t be helped. but i can see a cop uttering this if they think they’re god or if they’re jaded/cynical about yet another out of control, looks like a drug user uncooperative person.

we’ve got cops’shooting pets at no provocation, kicking cats, shooting people who think they’re being home invaded. video of a female cop executing a guy with a smart mouth. it’s totally plausible with today’s law enforcement officers.

For real ? A 90 pounder with a screwdriver? My Dad was a retired prison guard. He didn't talk about his job much, but I did hear enough over his 20 years there. Huge lifers with nothing to lose and a shank in hand were subdued rather frequently by unarmed guards with very few fatalities. Perhaps police officer candidates could use a year or so of prison duty before they're given a gun and put on the street.

Soon after I married his mother, my learning-disabled step-son was going through a meth addiction (and other crap). There were 3 or 4 times where I had to rush home from work to a barricaded wife and completely crazed 6'1" 230 pound step-son and couldn't deal with it without calling the cops.

Surprisingly, the L.A. cops, each time, handled the situation really well.

“Oh listen”

Listen to yourself and your crazed posts. If you wanna bash bad cops, go ahead, they have it coming. I’m not trying to say bad stuff doesn’t happen and that there aren’t bad cops. Happens in the military too, yet we still salute our men and women in uniform. Similarly, there are millions of cops out there who will NOT be in the news tonight, but are nevertheless risking their lives helping to get dangerous people off the street. When you guys start generalizing and calling all cops “animals” or all “liars” and the like, take a deep breath, calm down, and THINK.

Listen sonny, we avoid accusations or generalizations or possible premises, like the one you made, of or against families who have just had a loved one murdered before their eyes also. Wait until the rest of the story comes out before you condemn the family. Is that so freakin’ hard for you badge lickers?

Okay, but I better not see any more of your hate mongering posts in these types of threads, okay? I’ll hold you to the standard.

Crazed? Yeah, like a damn NOOBIE telling long time FReepers to go to the DUmp? That kind of crazy? The 5 cops who are in the nearest town ‘down the mountain’ from me are the best group of LEO’s/people you could ever want to meet. They would give their shirts off of their backs to help if needed. THEY can’t stand what is going on in today’s America with the out of control cop situation! Wake up!
