The North American Eagle is the best chance for an American to break the LSR that we have.

As a matter of fact....on October 9th, 2013, Jessi Combs piloted the Eagle to break the Women's Land Speed Record with a 2-way average of 392.594 mph. She reached a top speed of 440.709 mph.

Some time this year, if all goes well, Jessi will try to break 512 mph. The Eagle's owner and primary driver, Ed Shadle, will attempt to break ThrustSSC's record and possibly try for 800 mph.

If you FReepers want to chher on and support a couple of Americans trying for the LSR....here you go.

It was easy for me to remember.

I spent a lot of time as a DOD contract employee pulling them out of F4’s at MCAS Beaufort, SC back in the early 70’s.

BTW did you know the B-57 Canberra Bomber had Buick jet engines in it?
