What Type of Person Does This?

Posted on 01/06/2014 10:02:58 PM PST by GreyHoundSailor

To the human scum who discarded your scared, emaciated, beautiful female dog on a back road in the middle of winter: I discovered her this afternoon and carried her into our house, placing her on a blanket near our wood stove. She drank some water and ate a bit of food, thumped her huge bushy tail on the floor a few times while I stroked her head, curled up and fell asleep. Her huge sad eyes told me she'd probably never heard a kind word in her short life. Two hours later she was gone. We would have gladly adopted her if you'd had the courage to knock on our door to tell us you didn't want her anymore. I'm disgusted to think you oxygen thieves live somewhere close to me.

While abandoning sick pets is utterly reprehensible, it should be mentioned that sometimes sick animals will creep away on their own to die. For all you know, some family was frantically searching for their dying longtime friend so she could be comfortable in her last hours.

To add: when our resident dachshund was elderly, sick, and getting close to death, she looked ragged and emaciated too, despite all our care. She ended up dying of a spine infection, so she wouldn’t have been able to go someplace quiet to pass on, but other animals we’ve kept did pull disappearing acts shortly before death.

It sounds like she may have died.

That, or it ran away.

Thank you for caring for man’s best friend. God knows your soul.

To those who would harm man’s best friend, God knows your soul, too.

You were very kind to take her in. I’m sorry she didn’t survive.

We have a local internet forum called ‘Front Porch’ where people post that type of information. She wasn’t on that. Our local grocery and post office also has a bulletin board where folks post for lost pets; when I went down there after she passed away I didn’t see anything posted in either place.

I had a cat that was gravely ill with cancer. She’d hide from me and try to get outside constantly. I learned that this is common with many sick animals. I loved her and cared for her to the end. Had she managed to get outside, she certainly would not have been comfortable.

I’m imagining that if you had found her, if she ran away from me to be alone, you would have cared for her, I am sure.

I’m a little bothered that you would call me names without knowing the whole story.

You did well, with the dog, did a good thing.

If it had happened earlier that day, they might not have had time to put up notices. In my experience, when an animal sneaks off to die, it does so only a few hours to maybe a day before the actual death. Especially if the dog had already been sick for some time, they might have focused first on actually trying to find her themselves before putting out notices. I’m not saying that’s definitely what happened, but I felt it was at least possible and so mentioned it.

You could be entirely right, that the owners were heartless and dumped her when she became severely ill. Perhaps you’ll eventually find out. Did she have a collar, or maybe a microchip?

How do you know this dog wasn’t lost and got struck by a moving vehicle? Any broken bones? You can’t always tell when an animals has been hit by a car, and they can pass away from organ damage and/or internal bleeding.

Unfortunately, we’ve had many arrests in our area lately for animal abuse cases. I believe the ones not arrested in the latest round got scared and dumped their animals on back roads.

That is so sad. :-( I’m glad you gave her comfort in her final hours.

I believe you’ll have someone waiting at the Rainbow Bridge when you depart this life, FRiend.

As for whoever abandoned it....there is no word I know that can convey my utter disgust for them.
