I highly, HIGHLY doubt it was merely some thugs after her jewelry, money and clothing. Very possibly it was some of Hugo Chavez’s ex cronies and/or cronies of whoever the current tyrants of that nation are.

Venezuela is one of the world’s most violent nations, according to Reuters. The official annual murder rate is 39 per 100,000 people, but local activists estimate the actual murder rate is nearly twice as high.

How is that possible? Venezuela is a socialist utopia with strict gun control.

The current tyrant is Chávez’s hand-picked successor Nicolás Maduro.

Thanks for that. It can be a challenge even keeping up with the names of these tyrants these days as successors can change fairly quickly.

Most countries in Latin America and many in Africa have homicide rates much worse than in Mexico.

By comparison, the overall annual murder rate for the City of Chicago is about 16 per 100,000. Of course, this figure varies widely by neighborhood.

In other words, the national murder rate for Venezuela is as bad - or worse - than that of the most dangerous neighborhoods of Chicago.

Yeah, so this chick leaves her home, which is undoubtedly in a very secure, gated community, hops in her car, goes outside the walls, has car trouble, pulls off the road... and is almost immediately robbed and murdered.

Pretty much what I expect would happen to someone who - while driving a nice car - had engine trouble and had pull over in one of Chicago's dangerous neighborhoods at 1 AM or so.

When someone breaks down in Venezuela on the highway, it is normal to be robbed.

When a big rig breaks down... Katy don't bar the door, just run for it.

This happens to anyone who breaks down in Venezuela, at any time of day. There are hundreds of thousands of people out there waiting for the chance to rob them.

It can happen at the bus stop, on the bus, anywhere any time and the police are unable or unwilling to help. The chance of a victim getting justice in the courts is close to zero.

I read a lot of Venezuela blogs. lol
