I had XP which was great and I was fortunate enough to miss out on Vista.

Nice,see alot of minimal desktops out there,got a one click shortcut on mine when I get tired,reduces it to just the clock and taskbars.

I had XP, Vista upgraded to Win 7, and now a new Windows 8.1 to replace my 10 year old XP laptop. 8.1 took me about a month to find all the features. I bought the Windows 8.1 for Dummies book. It has been very helpful.

Overall I like 8.1

I'd like to add tiles around HAL (as in the movie) that are a digital clock (with associated features) and links to things I commonly use. Sort of like this:
