...but it's so blastedly COLD, WINDY and SNOWY. My furnace has not stopped running for two days straight. Wow, is that gonna cost us.
BRRRRRRRRRRRRR. The dog walked about 50 feet from the house turned around to come back and collapsed 6 feet from the house. I went out to carry him in, his poor feet wouldn't move any more.
Ooo, dat’s real cold den, eh?
Bueno para usted! Espero que estén muy contentos cerca de México!
Heard Joe talking with Frank Beckman on WJR yesterday morning, explaining how he and his group predict current and future winter forecasts.........Very interesting and he gave info that I had never considered before.
They base their forecasts on past conditions; specifically, polar winds, jet stream direction, atlantic and pacific water temps, other stuff, then compare those modules to what is happening today and come up with a very accurate description of we are in store for.
One observation he gave was that we are in for a very cold spring due to the below normal great lakes water temps that will affect the westerly winnds coming across the state........
I love Michigan, January especially, but school has been canceled again...starting to get a little stir crazy. I want to get all the Christmas trimmings put away and give the house a good cleaning but it's nearly impossible with three boys underfoot. I'm looking forward to the end of the week warm-up.
Joe is a real pro and has been pretty much dead on in his long term forecasting.
As you say he looks at historical trends and compares them to current trends and real numbers.
Good Lord. What kind of heating do you have, CC?
The pipe burst when my daughter swung on it. I was so dumb I didn't know what to do. My dad came over and shut off the water told me to get a plumber. He's been gone coming up 30 years now. I know how to turn off the water now but if I lose heat, I can open the faucets, drain the hot water heater? I don't know how you drain out everything.
A man froze to death on a rural road I'm familiar with, wouldn't get much traffic in the kind of cold at night we've been having, car went in a ditch but visible. He started walking to go for help and froze to death, only 35, very sad. They are saying people should keep things in the car and stay in it.
In Minneapolis they cancelled school for the first time in 17 years. I've been there when it's been -20. Anyway the law in effect now is you can't be out unless it's an emergency.
Only negative....made in China.
BA
I have propane and propane accessories.
Where in Yooper land are you? I used to live in Menominee and will be moving back there or to Gran Marias when I retire.
thanks for the info! much appreciated.... very much
Yep, propane does provide some toasty heat.
thanks for the info! much appreciated.... very much
(my MI friends have always teased me for never visiting in winter...... they keep telling me how much they enjoy ‘having all 4 seasons’ .... I said I will settle for just 3 of them, thank you very much!)
So you're going to sell your soul to warm your home? My sympathies. Propane prices are so high.
It was so cold today that I saw a liberal with his hands in his own pockets.
Heh. That's me!
The pipes in this house haven't frozen in 25 years. I've gotten lazy. The wind combined with the low temperatures are just something we haven't seen since the seventies.
And ditto on the school-closings and the martial-law because it's cold.
Best piece of advice I heard was to keep candles in the car. A single candle with throw off enough heat to keep you alive.
Grand Marais is about as close to heaven as you’re going to get on earth.
I used to live in MI., I would never go back in the winter.
I am freezing here in Vegas at 55.
You can make a clay pot stove for a couple bucks to maximize that candle heat.
