I don't care made in China. Everything is going wrong for me. I bought a high capacity battery pack to jump start my car. Well it is too heavy (18#) for me and I didn't see where you can't return them.

Somebody turned my corner from a salted snow route onto my icy corner. Even though I had my car pulled forward, she hit it. Just knocked the bumper off but where I had it taken they wouldn't fix it because of rust. The lady was nice to leave her info in my mailbox, must not have heard her knock.

The ins wanted to scrap my car but offered me about $1000 if I could find somebody to fix it (he was working from a picture the body shop sent) (I had better ones I took lol. Anyway, my regular guy fixed it and has it ready for $179.

But I have a chance to buy a much newer Honda SUV type for $3200 so am going to try it out tomorrow and take it back to the same guy to check out and pick up my car. I don't know what I'll do with 2. There are a few options. It has only about 75,000 true miles on it because I don't drive much.

That's why I need a battery pack because my battery goes down if I don't drive for a few days and I'm tired of trying to find somebody to jump it.

The battery pack I can't return to amazon (hazardous materials) was made in China, gets overall excellent reviews so I'm ordering a 9# one which should work for a smaller car.

I had a guy lined up to fix a few other things here and there in the fall but he never showed up. Luckily I did find somebody to snowblow. He fixed mine and uses that. It is blasting snow like I never saw before, a Toro X000 something. Not 2 cycle. I was going through photos of my son and found I've had it since at least 2004. It's in almost new condition, changed the paddles once. I used to run it and still could but I can't get back up my front steps, keep it in the front hall all year it's been lately because nobody to put it in the garage or basement.

I shouldn't post this much stuff. I've been feeling really anxious with all the things I have going. Thankful I have the means to deal with things but never expected to have to be spending so much all at once, need all teeth pulled too and putting it off. Need to find a leak in my plumbing and have it checked. And need to drive out of town to get a tombstone for my son's grave and also see an atty about a trust I don't like the way he set it up and will cost me to make changes. Ugh.

My biggest quandry is for a small farm and 7 grandkids, just how long will it be sustainable? I see possibly several bad scenarios down the line before say 2020 or 2025.

I agree, I love that place. I just wish it were closer to Iron Mountain, the location of Timberstone, my favorite golf course of all time.

Yes I think you are right. Was it here I read about a guy in Pittsburgh or Philly who couldn't afford to heat his house? He had one larger tent over a smaller one and was warm with 2 candles?

I'm going to put some things together in the car. That would make nice gifts. Survival stuff for the car. Not too much but just a few essentials.

Best thing to do is get a few votive candles (or regular candles in a glass jar)- there’s less risk of starting a fire.

They base their forecasts on past conditions; specifically, polar winds, jet stream direction, atlantic and pacific water temps, other stuff, then compare those modules to what is happening today and come up with a very accurate description of we are in store for.

Believe it or not, that is actually a very "old timey" way of doing it. I believe the Old Farmer's Almanack does it that way. Observations have improved over the centuries.

Sounds like a good way to get CO poisoning.

CO with candles? Or was it something else I said? I thought they might be a fire hazard.

I know not to run your car in a closed garage duh but should check for snow clogging exhaust pipe.

cold here in Jenison MI. 2 degrees outside now. Still windy. Still snowing. Ice on all the roads and the salt will not melt the ice yet. PURE MICHIGAN!

Candles emit CO and soot. Fire is always a hazard with open flames, but if you are careful you can avoid that. The problem comes when one tries to be too efficient with capturing the heat from the candle, because proper ventilation is very important. You’d be amazed at the filthy debris that comes from a candle.

The clay pot I saw referenced above is a good idea.

During the Blitz (WW2) people would heat their Anderson shelters with two flower pots and a candle and a hot water bottles for each occupant.

It’s been very windy here, hard to tell when it isn’t really snowing, and difficult driving this morning, total whiteouts, other vehicles kept going “invisible”.

“Normally I set it at 77 in the day and it always climbs to 76, turn it down to 71 at night.”

Wow! I like 70 in the daytime and 55 at night.

Been doing that for years.

I’m in MA——18 degrees today.

.

I used to set at 72 and turn down to 65 at night. But these newer furnaces are different animals. I used to stand in front of a register to warm up, doesn't feel so warm any more.

I'm in IA and today's high was 10 I think.

Natural gas, on the budget, resisted for years. Just paid my bill for last cycle, $150.80 for a sprawling Craftsman bungalow with tons of windows (I like lots of natural light and I like windows on every side of the house). When there's wind, very drafty; otherwise, ok.

With the older, warmer furnace, the last one, think I'm on the third new one in this house, my winter bills were $400 and $500 plus a month.

Plus I now have ac and use it a lot because humidity is harder on me now. They will play catch up at some point. This month isn't going to be any $150!!!

They sound like a great idea! My sister was telling me about those, don’t know where she saw the video/story. My comment to her was: where do I get clay pots in January? ;)

A curious fellow died one day and found himself waiting in the long line
of judgment. As he stood there he noticed that some souls were allowed
to march right through the pearly gates into Heaven.

Others though, were led over to Satan who threw them into the burning
pit. But every so often, instead of hurling a poor soul into the fire,
Satan would toss a soul off to one side into a small pile.

After watching Satan do this several times, the fellow’s curiosity got
the best of him. So he strolled over and asked Satan what he was doing.

“Excuse me, Prince of Darkness,” he said. “I’m waiting in line for
judgment, but I couldn’t help wondering. Why are you tossing those people
aside instead of flinging them into the Fires of Hell with the others?”

“Oh those . .” Satan groaned. “They’re all from Michigan. They’re still
too cold and wet to burn.”

I felt good today...live a little east of Lake Michigan and we were the warmest spot around! Got up to 8 today I think because of the lake....of course the tradeoff was the lake effect snow!

We have friends in the Rothbury/Montague area. They get all kinds of weird weather blowing in off the lake — lake effect snow, winds that blew a garage roof off, and the like.

He works at a service station — bet they’re busier than a one-armed paper hanger in this weather.
