17 years in Buffalo,NY.

Very close to what I remember.

I remember one winter I wore long pants for about a week and a half.

Played hockey since I was about 6, all the way through high school. Never played on an indoor rink until I was 17.

I survived the Blizzard of 77. But I moved away from the cold and the taxes.

Here in SE Texas it fell colder yesterday than the day before.

Speaking of temps, what’s with the “chill factor”?

“What’s the temp?”

“It’s 36 but it feels like 19.”

“If it feels like 19, it IS 19.”

Actually, in Buffalo it very seldom gets as cold as 0° due to the warming effect of Lake Erie. There are many, many places such as Minn., So.Dakota, upper Mich. that get a hell of a lot colder every year. We do get some snow though. Once in a while.

Just picking nits: 1) this is absolute zero on the Fahrenheit scale. On the Kelvin scale absolute zero is 0. 2) It's just zero point energy. Atomic motion cannot completely stop because of Quantum Mechanics. 3) Somewhere around 1000o F below zero, it stops snowing in Buffalo.

My little tuxedo cat took me to the door to let her out this morning (it was 5 outside). when I opened the door for her, she squinted her eyes, turned, and ran from the doorway. Too cccccold for even her furry self. She did sit at the window of my office and watch the birds finishing off the rackies food that went untouched last night.

I see now (decades and decades later - my parents wouldn't get a IBM 360 for my bedroom PC when I was a kid) that our house ENE of Buffalo was perfectly aligned for the lake effect snow plumes coming up the major axis of Lake Erie to dump snow in the driveway in the lee of the house.

It was my job to keep it shoveled. Many weeks that meant shoveling before and after school and then just before bed. If it wasn't snowing, then the wind just blew it in, even with a couple rows of windward snow fence.

I guess they were smart enough to know it was too cold to make the trip. I’ve got freshly cooked hotdogs for us tonight.

Ive been eating the heavy stuff from my freezer..

In Nov I made beans from scratch using left over ham from Thanksgiving and a heavy soup from the bones of the turkey..

I put them in freezer bags..

all I have to do is thaw a little and put the soup in a pot..

In the last few days Ive finished all the soup and

The beans Im finishing tonight warming them in a big soup bowl in the microwave..

plus I made a lot of meatballs last week for New Years,,

all were suppose to last a little longer but Ive finished off everything that was already cooked and in the freezer..

Tomorrow I have to get out of my winter cocoon and cook something from scratch

:(

I’ve been slowly building a hankerin’ for sausage balls. Might even make a run to Wally world tomorrow, to get the fixins. I prefer ham sausage and extra sharp cheddar, with tabasco, in Bisquick. I usually chop a bit of red onion into the mix before rolling them up to cook. They freeze nicely once cooked, so I plan on making a whole lot and freezing them, to much on as I get a hankerin’.
