It's January 9th, the main story so far has a name that sounds like a fun dance; The Polar Vortex. Another story is just now making the rounds although it happened many months ago; that story is now called Bridge-Gate. Apparently, some speculate that when Gov. Christie was running for re-election, certain local politicians were somewhat slow to display their supportive joy and enthusiasm for Christie to remain in office.
Some think the angry impatience was made evident when a bridge was needlessly blocked in New Jersey during one of the busiest times of the working day. This 'surprise' blockade stayed in place for over four hours, enough time so that emergency vehicles were forced to drive far out of their way in order to reach someone in critical need. In this case, it was a 91 year old woman, who, very soon later died. Many New Jersey Democrats are saying she should not have had to die, just so Christie could use city workers to 'punish' a local mayor who may or may not have wanted Christie to be re-elected.
Well, as it turns out, Christie did win re-election in a landslide, so I'm sure he thought all the actions taken during the campaign were already being forgotten. This is not going to be forgotten, at least not for a while. Christie will likely survive this, albeit in a somewhat weakened state for the present. While this story is still being circulated and learned, there may come a point where Christie needs some visible support from a few of the old guard Republicans and a fair amount from his own generation as well. I would not bet on a lot of republicans in his peer group speaking out for Christie. Many times in the last few years, when other GOP candidates needed Christie to go to bat for them, he would publically chose to sit it out, or just ignore there requests for help.
Cucinelli asked for support from Christie during that difficult Virginia campaign. Of course every conservative now breathing knows how Christie passive-aggressively refused to help Romney in the last days of his Presidential run. His snarky remarks about why would anybody mind him praising Obama still sting. I was stunned at what appeared to be heartless behavior. But then, it takes a huge inflated ego to run for office anyway. So, I'll just stop being shocked so easily. Some of us Tea Party members, such as myself, liked Christie a lot when he first came on the scene, but his bullying tactics and his habit of belittling those who disagree became bothersome. Much of that luster is lost. Christie may find himself pretty much on his own if Bridge-Gate has any legs.
Hmmm. Another Vichy Republican makes a spectacular public fool of himself. This is a problem for patriots because...?
The thuggish sounding Cristie had no chance outside RINOville (NE US)anyway. We have been laughing at his ass in Texas since his so called GOP frontrunner status.
Throw the Turkey under the bridge.
The blockade was in place for four *days*, not 4 hours. The four hours comes from how long people reported being stuck in traffic before getting past the restriction.
I’m not a big Christie fan, but if the media make this traffic lane issue a huge story, a huge scandal, it will just further my contempt for the MSM. They won’t touch anything regarding Obama, but just jump all over Republican problems. I hate them, with a deep passion.
The moderates will support him. As has been pointed out before, Rove, et al., support(ed) him for 2016 even though Romney’s vetting saw significant skeletons in his closet.
In a rule-of-law state, these people abused power and would get jail time.
My, my, my....the MSM is getting a little ahead of itself, isn’t it. Perhaps they’ve forgotten that their current declaration that Christie is the GOP nominee is only a symbolic one. They really should have waited until he actually got it before unleashing this.
They are either the ignoramuses we think they are, or they are just mighty damned sure he’ll get it anyway. They need to check in the Karl Rove on this....
“MSM wont touch anything regarding Obama, but just jump all over Republican problems.”
It’s surprising they’re addressing this one so early. They crave Christie for the GOP nominee because he’s moderate, has skeletons to dig up in the summer of 2016, and would lose to Hillary.
The guy or gal that comes out and promises to open investigations against democrats, fire Holder and eliminate 30% of the government, though he/she has green hair and drives a Yugo gets my vote.
For once I’m happy what the media is doing to a Republican.
A well deserved a-kicking.
Now I’m glad Christie didn’t tie himself to Cuccinelli. Cuccinelli is not associated with corruption should he choose to run for the senate:))
Omfg, so it took people four hours to cross a bridge to Manhattan instead of the usual two. I hate to break it to Big Media in NY, but no one cares about the GWB outside of their bubble.
The way the left is all over this non issue makes me think they are deathly afraid of Christie. Has he been officially nominated yet?
Reminds me of the BTO song of ‘74, “Let It Ride”.
It will take a lot of wagons to circle Christie!
Real Conservatives do not support Christie...
The DNC wants Christie to run because they can tear him apart
“The DNC wants Christie to run because they can tear him apart”.
Like they do everyone else, Christie just gives them a bit more fodder.
I just love that pig Debbie Wasserman Shultz coming on television ranting that closing highway lanes as revenge for not supporting the progressive whale from New Jersey,a world shattering event, but the president of the United States using the IRS to target the tea party is no big deal,or sending thousands of automatic weapons to Mexican drug cartels which kill Americans and innocent Mexican men women and children is a non story,or lying about a video being responsible for killing Americans and sending no help is nothing but a phony scandal.
When the hell is this country going to get a grip
Gonna take a lot wagons to do that...
Images for christie and obama
302 million images of the two thugs together.
He went out of his way to shiv us in 2012.
What goes around comes around.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer d-bag.
I still contend that Christie has never had any intention of running for president. Even if he was the best governor in the country and a man of flawless character, he’d be hard pressed to win a single state west of the Delaware River.
Probably. The establishment loves him.
Stupid does as stupid is.
All he has to say is “What difference does it make” and the whole scandal will go away.
Rove is probably behind this coming out now. He probably wants Jeb.
I hope not!
The Mainstream Marxist Media’s feigned outrage is completely transparent. Who cares about this?
Pray America is Waking
Its surprising theyre addressing this one so early. They crave Christie for the GOP nominee because hes moderate, has skeletons to dig up in the summer of 2016, and would lose to Hillary.
I posted this exact view in another Christie Scandal thread. I anticipate that the MSM will start working soon to soften the blow in order to preserve him as their GOP nominee of choice.
I rather hope they throw Christie under the bus - where he belongs.
But I bet the GOP-E wastes massive resources trying to rescue him.
Harping on BridgeGate performs three Hillary-helping acts:
1) It removes Christie as a possible 2016 opponent
2) It's a "butterfly!" that removes the public view from the disaster that is Obamacare, as well as the disaster that was Benghazi
3) It makes the GOP have to decide between supporting corruption or eating its own (that the Democrats never have to do this may be unfair, but it is the way it is, for now)
Bottom line: Hillary is determined not to be blindsided in 2016 the way she was by Obama in 2008. Any credible-in-her-eyes opponent must be taken down NOW.
The whole thing with Christie and Obama had a stench to it. Christie did very forceful symbolic things to help Obama. Was Obama going to make it easier for Christie in four years? (a promise Obama would break, for sure)
Why Christie can't get past this one:
1. He's not the "in control" guy he pretended to be. He says he asked his staff to come forward and they bare-assed lied to him.
2. Assuming Christie accepted what they said is true, Christie's response was all wrong. A real leader would've said "let's figure out why those lanes are closed, and get them opened....FAST.
Because (2) didn't happpen, I can only assume (1) is not truthful
CRUZ/RAND PAUL for 2016! No more compromising with the crazed anti-US globalists!
I don't think so, on two levels. First, the MSM wants to have something, anything that deflects from Obamacare, Benghazi, and Iran. Second, Christie is not the MSM's opponent-of-choice. Instead, they want an opponent-of-choice that Hillary can be 100% certain to beat. In their minds, the club only has three members, in alphabetical order: Jeb "OH NO NOT ANOTHER" Bush, Ted "GREEN EGGS AND HAM" Cruz, and Rand "SON OF TINFOIL HAT" Paul.
P.S. Remember, this is in their minds; I think any of the three could beat Hillary with a well-run campaign. Moreover, while I would prefer Cruz to Paul, and greatly prefer either to Jeb, 16 years of an "Obammary" administration would be the end of the American Republic.
PP.S. Mark my words...when the MSM is done with Christie, their next target will be Marco Rubio: they're more afraid of him than they are of Christie, because he is good-looking, articulate, young, a minority--all the things that were said of Obama in 2007/8--and also, in their minds, the one Republican who can garner enough of the Latino vote to flip the election in purple states. Look for an attempt to take him down in the late summer, before the midterms heat up, and also as the problems with employer-sponsored health insurance begin to hit the fan.
I agree. Dumb story. I think conservatives should ignore it and let Christie run New Jersey. I do not think he should be our nominee for Republican Presidency though. It would be another McCain and Romney situation.
Per some articles, up to 4 high admin officials were involved or had knowledge. One of those was Christie's chief-of-staff and two of the others, in addition to political appointees, were lifelong friends of Christies.
For the incident to have involved so many high level officials makes it unlikely that the Mayor did not have knowledge prior to or after the incident.
If the Mayor did not have knowledge, it shows a complete breakdown of authority and the chain of command in the high levels of his administration. In other words, it shows incompetence at the leadership level. Additionally, it shows poor judgment in the appointment of those individuals to such high level positions.
If the Mayor did have knowledge, even if it was nothing more than an affirmative nod to the plan, then he is fully culpable. That include culpability in the death of at least one person as a result of EMT service being impacted.
Either way, this does not look good politically or morally. We already have a thuggish administration in the WH who use intimidation and threats and agencies (IRS, Justice, etc.) to attack enemies, perceived and real. Christie seems to be a similar kind of administrator at a state level. If he did manage to get elected to the presidency, would/should we expect anything less?
In the next week, you will have more MSM resources directed at investigating this bridge fiasco ... than have been directed at the Benghazi scandal to date.
Vote x 2,. Totally agree.
They already have. It’s leading the news on ABC. Obama scandels, not so much...
Yeah, they dropped Gates-Gate for Bridge-Gate in a NY second.
From a politics standpoint, the time between now and when he’d announce his candidacy for President is an eternity. A million things could happen which could influence his run (one way or the other).
The GOPe will make sure this does not derail his “front runner” status. They want him, they’ll make it happen.
VA to CT: NJ Turnpike to Garden State Parkway to I 287 across Tappan Zee. Depending on traffic, you can pick up I 287 earlier off the turnpike. The latter route adds a few miles, but it’s a pretty good alternative.
This is a big scandal and the media should treat it as such. The problem is, they won’t view the Obama scandals with the same skeptical eye they’re using for Christie.
Obama gets the benefit of the doubt, Christie does not.
