‘They Portray the Guys Brilliantly’: Marcus Luttrell Praises ‘Lone Survivor’
The Blaze ^ | 1/8/2014 | Erica Ritz

Former U.S. Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell praised the soon-to-be released film “Lone Survivor” on the Glenn Beck Program Wednesday, saying the actors “portray the guys brilliantly.”

The film is based on the true events chronicled by Luttrell in “Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10.”

Asked to summarize what happened for the few in the audience who don’t already know the story, Luttrell said that in Afghanistan in 2005, “19 of us went in, and then five days later, I made it out.”

I'm pretty sure he got to have input in to the movie and wondered how good a job he felt the producers/actors did. Looks like he's pleased.

After reading the book a year or two ago, I’ve been waiting for this movie, and I never go to the movies.

I was wondering what kind of movie this would be. Don’t want to go see it if its just another of Hollywierd’s anti-American productions.

Rule #1 when you are compromised on a mission. Immediate exfil

Rule #2 when comms fail. Immediate exfil

When 300 terrorists are hunting you down and you have no QRF, air support or exfil plan - see rule#1 and rule#2.

Glad to hear this directly from Marcus Luttrell. Loved the book and I thought the movie was true to it ever since I saw the Official Trailer to Lone Survivor.

I've seen it three times, and I thought it was a really good movie. The only problem I had with it was that every time they got shot , covering the wound with dirt seemed to magically stop all bleeding.

When is this movie going to be released? I ususally wait til a movie is available on demand via cable, but this looks like a worthwhile exception.

I just bought the book from iTunes/iBooks for $3.99. Reading it on my iPad now and planning on going to the movie next weekend! Lutrell is on the Beck show right now.

Murphy deserved his MOH and Luttrell has done the memory of his brothers well. I've read the book a couple of times and look forward to seeing a movie made as close to the real thing as possibly could be done.

Great movie.

Watch for Marcus in a cameo role. Several instances.

Speaking lines and all.

It opened last night at our local theater, and I must say I was pissed the entire time while watching it. One guy’s piss poor decision led to the deaths of 20+ people. I am not even trained nor a soldier but who on earth cuts enemies and lets them leave, only to come back with guns. One of them had a com device, most likely Taliban, and the one approx. 20 yo kid looked like a soldier to all of the guys.

The lone survivor was an idiot. I believe he is telling this story simply to assuage his guilt.

Read the book. Easy to talk like you would make the correct decision in their shoes.

Classless man.

Saw the movie tonight. It was an awesome movie that everyone (except younger kids due to violence and cursing) should see to get an idea of what our soldiers go through. The ROE need to be reviewed and we need to come up with better comms for our people. To those who did or are serving, thank you for your service.

I wouldn't cut my enemy loose only to have him come back with 200 guns. Effing common sense. To not criticize that horrid decision just because someone is wearing the uniform is ludicrous. That one decision caused 20+ deaths.

When Marcus was having difficulties adjusting after his return, and some punk shot his dog, Govenor Rick Perry brought him to his ranch and gave him a place to stay and recover away from the press.

Happens all the time in the military. In WW2 my grandfather’s entire unit was wiped out by German 88’s even though commanders new what was waiting at the treeline for them. They played politics and wanted to risk the damage. They had orders so they obeyed.

When Marcus was having difficulties adjusting after his return, and some punk shot his dog,

He got in his truck and chased them for about thirty minutes, in excess of 100 MPH. He was on the phone with 911 for most of the chase. The scumbags that shot his dog got caught that night. They were threatening Marcus while they were being arrested, saying they would "get him".

I've always wondered if they ever figured out how little they are compared to a man like Marcus Luttrell.

I’m thinkin’ they haven’t a clue. They’re just lucky that the cops got to them before Marcus. After his experience in ‘ghanistan, he probably wasn’t to worried about the punks and their threats.

Sorry, but the guy ignored his training.

In military tactics, extraction (also exfiltration or exfil), is the process of removing personnel when it is considered imperative that they be immediately relocated out of a hostile environment and taken to a secure area.

There are primarily two kinds of extraction:
Hostile: The subject involved is unwilling and is being moved by forceful coercion with the expectation of resistance. Essentially, it is kidnapping by military or intelligence forces.
Friendly: The subject involved is willing and is expected to cooperate with the personnel in the operation.
