The Washington Redskins hired former Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden as head coach Thursday, FOX Sports 1 Insider Jay Glazer has confirmed.

Gruden interviewed with the team Wednesday and the two were reportedly closing in on a deal early Thursday, which has now been completed. The deal is for five years, Glazer reports.

The team will hold a news conference Thursday to introduce its new coach.

The Redskins endured a rocky season in 2013, finishing 3-13 after making the playoffs in the 2012. Washington opted to fire head coach Mike Shanahan once the season ended.

FOX Sports 1 Insider Mike Garafolo reports that early indications point to Redskins tight end coach Sean McVay will be Washington's offensive coordinator and Hue Jackson will replace Gruden as the Bengals' offensive coordinator.

I thought for sure Snyder would go after Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell. Maybe he did and Bevell turned him down.

Well, there’s new meat for the Snyder Sausage Grinder. Like the Cowboys, the Redskins will not win another SB until they get rid of the real problem: their owner.

I was WHOLLY unimpressed with Gruden at Cincy. The play calling in this last playoff game was a prime example. A J Green was, possibly, the BEST player on that field... and yet, the Bengals couldn’t find a way to use him.

I predict: The Redskins continue to SUCK!

Dang! I was hoping the Vikings would get him as he was on their short list.

If what Sally Jenkins wrote about RG111 it really doesn’t matter who they hired this Franchise is history.

LOL... Brilliant OC who is so creative that his Bengals went 0 for 3 in the playoffs, averaging a laughable 11.3 points per game under his guidance. A real wiz bang game planner. Should do wonders for RG3...

They can have him. He passes waaaay too much. Hope RGIII has a strong arm that can take it. Andy “The Red Popgun” Dalton has a weak arm and Gruden had him throwing too many passes.

Hey Redskins fans, get ready for three picks a game from the opposing defense.

Lump sum? What will he be doing for the last three years, after he’s canned?

Exactly. Common denominator is Snyder.

Ever since he turned the Skins into a corporate money making machine, all loyalty and Redskin historical ‘spirit’ was lost.

The Redskins are nothing more than a oversized vending machine anymore. People shoving in money and it spitting out crappy products.

Yes, too many of these extremely wealthy owners of sports teams who put milking their franchise for cash above winning and civic pride. They'll invest in players and coaches when there is something they want from the local government and the taxpayers, usually a new, expensive stadium, mostly paid for with the people's money.

Saw, and am seeing this, in San Diego. The ownership of the Padres poured in money for talent in order to get into the World Series...just before a ballot measure to approve a new ballpark. Spanos family has been playing hardball for years with the town to get a new football stadium, with repeated threats of moving the team to L.A. If the Chargers make it much farther in the playoffs this year, they're gonna go for the throat.

I am simultaneously happy and sorry for him...

But he's a big boy and knows what he's getting himself into with Danny's Den of Dysfunction.

Enjoyed his time in CFL in the Arena League both as a player and coach. Happy to see he was recognized for his coaching skills in the NFL.

Very happy for Jay Gruden, a fellow University of Louisville alumnus. Wish he could’ve gotten this chance somewhere other than the wreck that is the Redskins organization, but it is what it is.
