A 5.1 earthquake rattled Cuba and Florida yesterday afternoon. No damage, It was a rare event. There are earthquakes in Cuba, but they're mostly in the south. There were reports from Florida of swinging lamps and rattling objects. I felt it as a slight vibration under my forearms as I leaned on my desk. My husband and son, working downstairs, did not feel it at all.
The looney left will say it is the result of either Global warming or the Tea Party.
There was a 1.8 quake in adjoining Lancaster Cty, a few days ago; no biggie. Worst I’ve ever been in was a 3.4, about 5-6 years ago; made me notice as things on my desk were moving around. That was unnerving.

Actually, the real cause was that Cuba just began sales of new cars.
The ‘quake was due to the foundations of Castro Communism being shaken. If Cuba had begun selling cars at world market prices, the ‘quake would have been so severe that many building would have collapsed.

Most of those 50-model cars and trucks may be worth 5-10 times more than the purchased price.
Not in the condition most are in. Not nearly.
Where was the epicenter? In the ocean?
Pretty impressive. I’ve been through 2 I felt at less than that, although epicenter was very close!
You’d be surprised what some people will pay for a rusted car body . As for motors, they can be rebuilt.

Some Friend of Obama/Hillary probably has already staked his claim on exclusive rights to used cars in Cuba. Amazingly, even as a flaming Leftist, he still will probably exercise the old capitalist/Wall Street mantra, "Buy low, Sell high!"
"Si, Senor, I will pay you $200, US gringo dollars, for your '57 Chevy Bel Air, and I will pay your amigo $175 for his '56 Ford Crown Victoria!" Actually, all sales will probably have to be threough the Cuban Government approved Used Car Auction, Raul Castro Motors.
I’m pretty much an old car nut. So most cars won’t command too much in Cuban condition from the ‘50s. Many in fantastic condition really don’t command much.
You must be buying the wrong type of junk, I rebuilt and restore late 40’s - late 60 models when I can find them.
Not active at all, but browsing (always wishing) ads in Antique Automobile, at least. Not every car is a cult car like a Bel Air or a tail-fin-era Cadillac or a first-gen Thunderbird.

We had a 4.0 here in Kentucky just over a year ago, epicenter in the eastern mountains. The only casualty was my parrot; he fell off his perch and lost a tail feather.
Good thing you’ve never taught him swear words. ;’)
Not in Florida, but perhaps movement of the Caribbean Plate. Maybe we will have a volcano next.
