Critics: Facts donít back up Meryl Streepís Walt Disney bashing
Fox News ^ | January 10, 2014 | Hollie McKay

LOS ANGELES – Meryl Streep’s Tuesday speech in which she labeled the late Walt Disney a “gender bigot” is being criticized by some who worked with the Hollywood legend, and others who have a much different take on the Hollywood giant’s life.

Walt Disney animator Floyd Norman, who worked alongside the mogul on films including the classic “Sleeping Beauty,” told us Streep is simply misinformed.

“I arrived at Disney in 1956 as a young artist. Surprisingly, there were a fair number of young women working in the art department. I too had heard that women were not allowed in animation. So, even in the '50s, things were already beginning to change,” he told FOX411. “While it is true the studio regarded women differently from men in the '30s, I found many young women who had nothing but good things to say about their years in Ink and Paint. Most loved Uncle Walt and never regarded him as a sexist.”

Indeed it was very much the norm in the '30s for women to be closed off from jobs in the animation arena, so some argue that Disney was more of a product of his time. But as early as 1941, Disney is reported to have told male artists working on “Dumbo” that “if women can do the work as well, she is worth as much as a man.”

“The myths surrounding Walt Disney are to be expected, I guess. Like most famous men of his time, his legacy has continually been challenged,” Norman said. “No matter how many times we refute the lies about Walt, they seem to continue. I think some people will simply never like the man, no matter what we have to say.”

Another long-term, current Disney employee described Streep’s harsh words as plain “weird.”

Meryl Streep is a good actress as was Hanoi Jane though Jane is a traitor, IMO.

Streep had better get her facts straight before bashing Walt Disney as an anti-Semite and sexist at a most inappropriate forum, of course Streep has a leftist agenda.

Actors rarely think for themselves. They’re paid to read someone else’s words, no thinking needed.

Streep is a great actor but typically low information (stupid & brainwashed).

Another attempt at revisionist history. Streep just showed that she has a lack of class, something I didn’t expect of her but should have given that she is an actress.

Long after Meryl Streep is a forgotten nobody, Walt Disney and what he created will still be known and loved.

Just a nasty name calling washed up “actress” (oops, genderist word), pulling a publicity stunt

Walt Disney has been gone for almost 50 years - who is Meryl Streep to speak ill of him! Another one for on my excrement list.

Did Streep bash Nelson Mandella for being a commie terrorist supporter?

Absolutely, and I have to think Streep is somehow jealous of that fact.

I’m pretty sure she admired Mandella for being a commie supporter.

I really truly think Meryl Streep is a highly over-rated ham. Her portrayal of Julia Child was an absolute caricature, artifical, shallow -- a clown! And that, in my opinion, is what Meryl Streep really is, just a clown!

With all do respect, IMO both suck as actresses. As for fonda, her skeleton should be hanging next to kerry in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

I have a female relative that worked in animation starting in the 1950’s and loved it. She never had a problem. And she’s still around with a nice big pension to show for it!

I agree with you 100 percent, but facts don’t matter to her or to most of those Hollywood libtards.

They’re in it for the MONEY and the fame.

Most are rabid-ass sociopaths, who would otherwise be dangerous criminals, IMHO.

These slanders against Walt Disney have been around a long time.

They are deliberate and have been coordinated to some degree by the communist propaganda gait-prop of the 20th century.

It stems from his position when there was a strike at the Disney Studio in 1940 wherein he was aware of the communist component of it.

And then from his willingness to testify to the HUAC in 1947 about communist influence in Hollywood.

In 1964 Disney received an award from President Johnson. It was rumored for a long time that Disney wore a Goldwater button to the ceremony.

Recently Animation historian Michael Barrier was able to verify that indeed this was true.

Very well said, my Friend.

To the vast majority it is ALL about money and fame.

You’re right about most being rabid-ass sociopaths too, especially that because they live in a fantasy world! :-)

Thanks, I wasn’t aware of that but Goldwater was the first candidate I voted for in a presidential election.

I do remember some of the attempted defamation of Disney in the 50’s but as I remember there wasn’t much attention given to it.

A typical Holly-weird lib. Plays a character in a movie, and interacts on film with another actor portraying Walt Disney, and thinks she’s an expert on Disney’s behavior and personality.

Streep certainly didn’t seem to mind taking the Disney Company’s money for her portrayal of Cruella De Vil.

This isn’t the first time Streep raised a ruckus by talking through her anal orifice! If memory serves, she was one of the Hollywood whackos who went to Congress and pitched a fit over a pesticide, Alar, being sprayed on apples, a la, “What are we doing to our children?!”

IMHO, if she and many others actually gave a crap about children, they’d be pro-life and anti-abortion!

The only way they could make themselves look better is dousing themselves in gasoline and setting it ablaze..... They’ll have to pony up for the extra carbon credits though.
