Florida Pizza Shop Sells Pie That Includes Python Meat

Evan’s Neighborhood Pizza in Fort Myers, Fla., is known for its Everglades pie — a crazy concoction that includes of frog, alligator and snake toppings.

Would you like a ssssslice?

A Florida pizza joint is offering a special slithering pie topped with virtually every creature that lives in the swamp.

Evan’s Neighborhood Pizza in Fort Myers, Fla. tops its Everglades pie with a curious amalgam of animals including hog, alligator, tomato, frogs legs, swamp cabbage — and, for good measure, python.

“I'm very adventurous when it comes to food, that's for sure,” owner Evan Daniell, 52, told the Daily News on Thursday. “You have different flavors throughout each bite.”

The python, for example, has a chewy consistency and is marinated to remove the “gamey” taste of the meat. The frog's legs, which include the bones, have a cleaner taste than chicken, Daniell said. The idea was born in the pizza shop two years ago when the employees were discussing the invasion of pythons in the Everglades.

“It's a happy accident, it's about being creative,” said Daniell, who estimates he has sold roughly 150 pies in the last two years. “We're selling them left and right.”

Out-of-towners often get dragged to the Sunshine State slice shack by locals, his wife Avis Daniell noted.

Evan and Avis Daniell of Fort Myers created the pie when there was the python invasion in the Everglades a couple of years ago.

“The out-of-state people want to try it because it’s like a dare,” said the wife, 42.

The family is not done pushing the envelope with their pies, Evan Daniell said.

The husband has considered a “roadkill” pizza that would include raccoon, armadillo and even possum meat.

“I've yet to find a supplier,” he said.

The two admit they’re shocked at how well it’s sold. They’ve made more than 150 of the peculiar pies since they first put it on the menu.

The medium 14-inch Everglades pie retails for a pricy $45, mostly because python meat costs about $66 per pound.

Pace yourself when eating the packed pie, Daniell warned. “You gotta be careful, you don't want it to bite you the next day,” he joked.

That’s the problem with snakes. They always want to use the microwave. They should use the over or the stove more often.

Why did the tomato cross the road? Because the swamp cabbage was after him.

Lol, I’m definitely no snake fan. A few months back in new Brunswick one was loose in a living room and killed two boys, one was over for a sleepover. I can’t imagine being that parent. They lived over top a pet store from what I saw. I can’t imagine what they thought as they were crushed to death.

I think it’s the buttons.

The lack of arms makes turning knobs difficult so they prefer the modern convenience of digital touch padssssssssss.

Yeah, that story reeked to high heaven.

They’re still talking about it on the herp forums.

I do not believe that snake “acted alone”.

There was too much weirdness going on with the shop owner.

Tons of photos of the boys ‘playing with snakes’ in their *underwear*?

Last I heard, the investigation had shifted from the snake to him.

Snakes kill to eat, not for kicks.

Humans, not so much.

http://www.retailhellunderground.com/my_weblog/2013/08/pet-store-shocker-python-snake-may-not-be-murderer-of-two-canadian-boys.html

http://killingkillers.blogspot.com/2013/08/police-probe-python-double-murder.html

After the end of August, it all just goes down the rabbit hole, never to be mentioned again.

...unless you hang out in herp forums, anyway.

It is SO behaviorally aberrant as to be nearly impossible.

It makes me think of "Columbo" where Dobes, venomous snakes and venomous shellfish were used to commit 'perfect murders'.

If the "perp" can't testify on its own behalf...makes me wonder about some "killings" by dogs, especially of babies.

What if they were just ~really~ "late term abortions"?

People can be unbelievably evil and creative.
