Yep!

Actually, IMO, the “new country” does not even have the sound. I am certainly no expert, but it seems to me that taking a pop band sound to accompany singing with a Southern accent does not make a true country music sound.

The Celebrity Apprentice star has battled the disease

If you can stop the "disease" by not putting something in your body, it's not a disease. Cancer is a disease.

Type 2 diabetes is a disease. The behavior of eating poorly which results in diabetes is not a disease.

Eating nuts when you have a nut allergy is also not a disease.

no but the diabetes subsides and goes away when eating better…. again you do not have a clue as to what you are talking about.

avoiding nuts ( i.e. not ingesting them) prevents the ALLERGY from kicking in and killing you.

Modern science has associated lots of cancers with behaviors (eating certain types of foods, smoking, not exercising, etc etc) that can just as easily blame the cancer patient for their own cancer.

The body of the alcoholic (like it or not) processes alcohol differently than the body of the non alcoholic. It is an allergy of the body and an obsession of the mind.

Because you want to be cutesy and try and pretend you know something about it only makes you look small and pathetic. The alcoholic din’t want to be alcoholic any more than the cancer patient wanted to be a cancer patient.

Alcoholism as a ‘disease’ came out of the same department that has told us that pederasty is perfectly normal, and that recovered memory syndrome is a fact.

Alcohol isn’t the main problem, dude. The problem is that you are an asshole. Alcohol just makes it more apparent. You should quit drinking but more importantly, you need to quit being an asshole.

Plague is a disease and you don’t catch that off a toilet seat.

A syndrome (such as Downs Syndrome) is a set of symptoms that affect your health. A disease will kill you.

Pederasty is not normal. Anorexia is not normal. Homo is not normal. Illness is not normal but it exists. Whether mental or physical sickness.

Castration is a cure for pedophilia. Psychotherapy and force feeding is a cure for anorexia. Homos are sinners who need prayer and analysis for the root cause (usually pederasty).

Duck Dynasty is on and I’m going to watch it so have a good evening.

You have to look behind the curtain to see who benefits from reclassifying alcoholism as a disease. (You can do it for yourself, but as a hint, check who benefited from the long discredited recovered memory syndrome) Why wasn’t it a ‘disease’ 50 years ago (or whatever)? I think we can probably agree that both alcoholism and anorexia nervosa are illnesses, mental illnesses, but once you classify them as diseases you are are corrupting the language, which itself is a lively modern disease of another kind, if you will. Because if alcoholism, a behavioral problem, with certain physical causes like all behavioral problems, if alcoholism is a disease, then why not biting one’s nails being a disease? To say that alcoholism is a disease without questioning the very recent change of its classification, is repeating mindlessly received wisdom, which is no wisdom at all.

Right. Alcohol is an addiction, it is not a "disease" but does cause disease such as liver failure, brain damage, dementia and others.

I call it "pop country."

I'm generally speaking not a country music fan, but what passes for today's country music really doesn't compare to the country music of 20 or even 10 years ago.

IMO, Blake Shelton is probably the best example of "pop country" out there. That and the way country songs are "mixed" these days .... compressed bass, too much reverb, flattening all the sound ... it just hurts my ears.

You describe it well, although I can’t say it hurts my ears. I do not know anything about music theory or composition, so I just call what you described “processed” — that is, if I comprehend what you said. I can’t stand any kind of music that is like that.

Prime example for me is Enya. The husband loves her sound, but it drives me up the wall. She has a beautiful voice, so why can’t she just sing with it without blending all those tracks? (I don’t even know if I used the term “tracks” right. Oh, well....)

Now, I enjoy blue grass, and my husband does not. So I don’t play blue grass while he’s around, and he does not subject me to Enya.

Not a huge country music fan, but I must say that I like almost every George Strait (sp?) song I have heard. “Amarillo by Morning” comes to mind.

It is, in a way, a form of self-mutilation....again a mental illness that becomes a disease when it can kill you. Such as “cutting” and depression can lead to suicide.

If it can kill you then it’s a disease. Some people have beaten cancer, a disease, and lived.

Some die of suicide, a mental illness, that becomes a disease when they die from the illness.

The flu is an illness but it can kill you if you get advanced pneumonia which is then cause of death.

This entire discussion started with the premise that if you put something into your body then it’s not a disease (alcoholics) while cancer is a disease.

I disagree with that statement and used anorexia as an example. Things aren’t always black and white.

“The alcoholic din’t [sic] want to be alcoholic any more than the cancer patient wanted to be a cancer patient.”

Forget what anyone “wanted.” The alcoholic has the distinct advantage of being able to change his/her condition by deciding not to pick up the next drink.

A lung cancer patient, even one who brought about his/her disease by smoking, can’t stop the disease by not lighting up again.

Saying alcoholism is a disease akin to cancer only excuses the alcoholic’s behavior. It’s not so much a disease as an addiction due to psychological issues, and those can frequently be overcome through AA or similar. You can’t go to a support group meeting to cure cancer.

The brain is the most “physical” part of the human body.

We can live without a spleen, gall bladder, urinary bladder, most of the intestinal tract and have our anus sewn together.

We can live with one kidney, a partial liver, one lung, no limbs, no gonads, no breasts, lymph system reduced.....but we can not live without a functioning brain stem unless on support.

Mental illness is a disease that can progress to death of the physical body.

Just like an insect bite can cause an illness that turns into plague and death. Just as a bacterial infection can lead to fatal meningitis or flu becomes fatal pneumonia.

PTSD or any mental illness can be just as lethal as any of the above through no fault of the victim.

Corruption of the language is a modern cultural disease. By classifying alcoholism as a disease, the professional “help” community that has grown a thousand fold in the past 50-75 years and needs work, said to the alcoholic, “you poor baby, you’ve caught a disease, it’s not your fault, not your responsibility, not your free will, LET US HELP YOU FOR A FEE!”

I have made poor choices and had disease. I can tell the difference. Poor choices that were exceedingly difficult not to make but choices just the same. Apparently others cannot distinguish the difference.

Some mental health issues with physical causes are in reality diseases but simply classifying poor self control as a disease is an excuse. Maybe those that do that have excuseism disease./p>
