There is some hope.
I work with young men and women who are preparing to become deck officers and marine engineers on merchant ships,
oil rigs and so forth. They are focused and for the most part well disciplined. But they are attending a college where you need to to declare you major your freshman year.
It is not a place for dabblers.
What's their most common characteristics? They never make excuses for themselves. They strive to learn from everyone and everything they encounter. They don't expect favored treatment. I just hope they're the ones that become the leaders of tomorrow.
