12 Years as a Slave
Personal | 19 Jan 2014 | myself

Hello FRiends. So we went to see 12 years a Slave. Wow! I totally recommend it. It was a true story that does not get all Hollywood Liberal. It was basically a true to life synopsis of the time this "free" man becomes a slave. It is astonishingly good. I went because I could not believe it won the Golden Globe for 2014 as the Best Film and I had no idea about the film before that night. My wife is not convinced that it should have been best film, but I am thinking closer to believing it should be. We are off to see "American Hustle" later on this afternoon. This weekend is a quiet movie weekend. I guess we still have to see Gravity, Jack Ryan, Lone Survivor, and many more.

For a change, 12 Years a Slave is not liberal hollywood mess. It is a hard look at how this guy went through a tough period of time in his life.

I’m just not interested in it. It holds no attraction for me.

No, thanks. I do not willfully give my money to those who will use it for my destruction.

P-Marlowe,
You love it when we converse on here. I just say go to the movie. No harm done in that.

Read LZ Granderson's piece on it

I'm not sure I have any interest in spending my money to see and support a movie that Liberal commentators like Granderson are using to reinforce their narrative.

To wit:

... To see "12 Years" is to see the full story of what those who fought under the shadow of the Confederate flag gave their lives to keep. To see "12 Years" is to see that the claim that the black people who picked cotton in the field with the star of "Duck Dynasty" were "happy" is a racist insult.

The movie is an unsanitized portrait of a nation's shameful past. It is two hours of breathing in the antebellum South and then walking out of the theater trying to pretend the stench is all gone.

The only Best Picture nominee I’ve seen is “Gravity” and it was amazing.

I am underwhelmed also. I don’t find the need to indulge in white guilt any more since we were healed of our racial divisions by the election of THE ONE.

Ah! DJango...a nice Harvey Weinstein movie with no racist backlash or violence. I’m wondering if Netflix will carry it so I can mark it “NOT INTERESTED”

According to an online review, if the title of the movie matched the style of the direction, it might have been called "The Passion of the Slave". Another interesting footnote is that it's possible the protagonist was enslaved due to a flubbed "Skin Game".

The moronic commentator you quoted doesn't seem to realize that slavry ended 150 years ago, whereas Robertson picked cotton alongside free blacks.

He's not a "moron". He's a race-hustler.

Loosen up a little your girdle is too tight. Every movie made in Hollywood it is a Libtard production. Even “Shrek”. :-)
