CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A 16-driver championship field that would be whittled down to create a winner-take-all season finale is among radical changes reportedly being considered by NASCAR.
NASCAR chairman Brian France has repeatedly said he wants to place a greater emphasis on winning, and he's never ruled out tinkering with the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship format in an effort to create the "Game 7 moments" he covets.

the front runners are there for a reason.

I think you could run a much more efficient race by starting half of the field going clockwise, and the other half counterclockwise. Just sayin.

We ran something similar at Gardena in the 50s, it was called destruction derby!

Yes, but those cars ran in reverse, heh. If I were rebuilding cars for Demo Derbies I would move the radiator to the trunk, and frame the open area in front with trusses to form a ram. I wonder if there are rules preventing that?
That would certainly eliminate drivers. It worked well with the HO scale I used to run....
#1 - Run narrower tires at Daytona and Talladega. Remove the restrictor plates. This would make the drivers “lift” in the corners. That is what you want.
#2 - Change NASCAR to “North American Sports Car Auto Racing”. Run Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers, etc...
#3 - Limit each racing team to 2 entries. After 3 years, limit each race team to one entry.
Radiator wouldn't get a lot of air-flow then would it? Defeating the whole purpose of even having a radiator.
So the only real 'rule' against it would be physical science.
They have rules but I don’t what the details are.
Also the rules maybe specific to an event, etc.
A couple of examples:

Do you know what happens to cars in a Demo Derby? I don’t think cooling the engine for a long time, or even efficiently, is necessary.
Why even worry about a radiator at all then right? Without a radiator I doubt a water cooled engine would run more than 10 minutes at such high revs without seizing up. But then of course, I’ve never tried that.
They need it longer for the few minutes it would run without a radiator, but not more than 45 minutes or so. Usually, they drive the whole derby in reverse and rear-end each other. The guy who plows straight into someone else loses quickly because the radiator is ruptured and the engine seizes in just a few minutes, hence my idea of putting the radiator in the back. Then the car can go ahead and front-end at will. But I’m sure there’s a rule against it.
Without air flow through the radiator you’d end up with boiling water in the water jackets in no time. It would do more to overheat the engine than cool it. Also the turning motor is what propels the radiator fan. NO motor turning, no fan. Also, if your ramming front ends then how are you going to have running motors or even any steering for that matter. One hit and you’re out of the derby.
It absolutely no-worky here, IMO.
