Parents warned of alarming new trend of students snorting Smarties that can lead to NASAL maggots

Parents in Rhode Island are being warned that their children could succumb to horrifying infestations of nasal maggots worming in their noses, internal bleeding and lung infections if they continue snorting Smarties candies.

The skin-crawling consequences of the unusual trend which seeks to imitate cocaine users seen on television, are caused by a condition called nasal myiasis—which occurs when flies lay larvae eggs inside the nose—attracted by the rotting candy rammed up inside the lining.

According to officials in Portsmouth Middle School, the trend is a “widespread phenomenon” that has been sweeping YouTube in recent years and has involved over a dozen students in the area. …

Never ran into this problem when I used to to inhale the dust daily in the factory while making them. Did ware a dust mask but still got a whiff of the powder often. Well they are made in New Jersey now. I don’t eat them anymore after knowing what goes into them.

Just to clarify: What Americans call “Smarties” are called “Rockets” in Canada and are sorta like a round Pez. “Smarties” in Canada and the UK are similar to chocolate M&Ms.

Probably. But think of the cinematic possibilities for a remake of Reefer Madness.

Why would you let a fly go up your nose? To get a buzz?

I think we need a government program to teach people what should and should not go into each body orifice. < /lib>

Years ago I had a headache and stopped at a 7-11 to get a Goodies powder for it. In those days aspirin powders were mostly a Southern thing and Northerners didn't seem to know what it was. I opened the little blue envelope and straightened one of the individual packets, tapped one end and prepaređ to drop the powder onto my tongue when a customer with a New Jersey sounding accent asked me what that stuff was. I told her it was aspirin (actually APC in those days). She asked me, "how do you use it?" I told her that "you snort it" and placed the charge up to my nose. She got a horrified look on her face, shuddered and turned away and left the store quickly. I then tapped the powder onto my tongue and swallowed it with the soda I had already opened.

I once snorted Pop Rocks when I was about 13 or 14 years old.

Yeah, those things...

They started to fizzle way up in my nose and then...BLAM!!! One blew up big enough to hurt my nose for a while.

I did that once...just...once.

I love this use of the instant meme of “nasal maggots”, which of course rates about a billionth of a percent possibility. However, it should be applied to other things, like Obamacare, which is *known* to cause nasal maggots.

Which of our political leaders already suffers from nasal maggots? Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, certainly. I’m also thinking Harvey Weinstein.

Endless possibilities, here. Nasal Maggots!

Yes, it looks like it’s being pierced by a bullet of some kind. For scale, the roll is about three inches long, 1/4” in diameter. A real favorite at Halloween.

I have no idea why anybody would grind them up and snort them. Stoopid, I guess.
