Looking back, I believe that the studio version of “Love Will Keep Us Together” is about as perfect a pop composition as can be made.

It was #1 for the year for a reason.

There is a certain joy in the way that Toni Tennile performed, one of the few knock out pop stars that you can bring home to mom and dad and announce your forthcoming marriage. Sort of the anti-Chrissie Hynde (Rush Limbaugh reference).

Here is a live version, showing the talent of the two of them.

The Captain has a bad case of Parkinson’s...

Perhaps he needs a lot of expensive health care and being single will qualify him for assistance without depleting their savings.

There has always ‘been talk’ that The Capt. has always had a difficult time communicating. Nowadays, some may call those symptoms Asperger Syndrome, or a very high functioning autistic person, who was able to sublimate his obsession with sound perfection, and make a very fine living from it. I don’t know if that is true or not, I’ve never met or treated him. Such a condition, plus being professional performers, may be part of why they had no children.
On another point, I recall being embarrassed in the late 70s when I heard Toni and The Capt, performed that song Muskrat Love for The Queen of England. Prince Charles is said to have called it ‘rather vulgar’. I tend to agree. That Moog and Farfasia synthesizer combo was a bit uncomfortable to listen to without feeling like an act of Voyeurism is being committed with you as a participant.

Actually, the word around the “industry” in their working years was that Toni would ‘take on’ just about anybody, anytime, anyplace.

When they were popular, it seemed that Tennille dominated the act, so I thought they should be called The Captain and the Admiral.

they must have run out of muskrats.

Was Andrew Zimmern around? Saw part of an epi of him being taught how to skin and cook them.

I guess love couldn’t keep them together

One of the best kept secrets in American history was that the Captain was only a private. It took 40 years but the truth finally came out and Tennille couldn't deal with it......so sad.

Why did he never speak?

I have to think that's why it lasted for forty years.

Amazing coincidence, I was just thinking the other day: What ever happened to Captain and Tennille? This is not a thought that was very likely to occur. I don’t think I have ever given the subject much thought in the last 35 years. I used to watch their variety TV show back when I was a kid. They had a very funny segment that would involve a perambulatory watermelon or some such thing. Anyhow, I am tempted to say congratulations for lasting this long and sorry about your recent split.

"Women often deal with it by "Encouraging" their husbands to get a hobby... Outside"

My local bar has a late morning "men's club" consisting of about 3-4 married retirees, 3-4 single retirees, and 3-4 unemployed or under-employed or self-employed men. I've often wondered what the wives of the married men think - are they glad to be rid of them for a couple of hours every day? And it IS almost every day.
