Why can’t they just bomb it and sink it?

Why not use it for some RN target practice?

Owner should have a quick auction to see which navy would pay to use it for target practice?

They should tow it off the coast of Somalia. Let the pirates try to board it only to find hoards of diseased rats.

~~~ the Canadian government elected to cut it loose in international waters, saying it posed no threat to other vessels or offshore oil drilling platforms.~~~
Brilliant!!!
Well, sure they have demented, disease-ridden cannibal rats on board, but what about the buffet? A good buffet can make up for a lot of problems. You get a good mac and cheese, and those rats seem more like friendly hamsters.
I predict a quick turnaround movie ...
Been done in print (1937) and audio (1949+).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Skeleton_Key
Lighthouses are automated now, but Vincent Price really brought the horror to life in the Escape 1950 version.
That would be too cruel. Too cruel to the rats.
“I love the fine dining on these cruise ships. Look at this.....real silver.”
“Good evening. My name is Ramon. I will be your server.”
“Great, Ramon! What’s the special?”
“Roasted demented rat in a tangy horseradish sauce with fresh baby red potatoes and a vegetable medley.”
“Roasted demented rat?”
“Yes sir. With fresh baby red potatoes.”
“Are they free range rats?”
“Well, they are quite well travelled.”
“And I can have seconds....no problem?”
“That is our policy.”
“OK....I’ll have the roasted demented rat. And keep bringing them out until I have to unbutton my pants.”
It’s be cannibal rat vs cannibal rat!!!!
I'm thinking that there's an awful lot of available space for more rats.
If a rumor got started that there's a news camera on board looking for officials and other spokespeople, a number of pols, poverty pimps, and community activists will flock to it, taking along quite a bit of journ-o-lists.
So the Canadians cut loose a derelict vessel rather than declare it under maritime law as a menace to navigation and then sink it?
If another ship collides with that abandoned derelict with loss of life, it will be lawsuit city for the Canadians.
International Court of the Hague, anyone?
I like your plan; it has the most chances of success, it's an excellent
choice..and baited w/ US Taxpayers' $$$$..an Real human interest story.
but one problem, Animal Cruelty..all those Rats and Marxists/1ship.
Old hulks aren’t a treasure. The ship is almost 50 years old. It was up for sale for four million before it was eventually sold for $275,000. latching onto a drifting ship with no onboard help is a dangerous operation. I’m not surprised the Canadians said f**k it.
But once aboard, the scrappers will face unimaginable horror: a demented, disease-ridden population of rats that have been feeding on each other and breeding.
The US if the productive decide to go Galt.
