TOPEKA A man who provided sperm to a lesbian couple in response to an online ad is the father of a child born to one of the women and must pay child support, a Kansas judge ruled Wednesday.
Topeka resident William Marotta had argued that he had waived his parental rights and didnt intend to be a father.
Shawnee County District Judge Mary Mattivi rejected that claim, saying the parties didnt involve a licensed physician in the artificial insemination process and thus Marotta didnt qualify as a sperm donor, The Topeka Capital-Journal reported.

So he is getting screwed without getting.......
Does he get visitation rights?
Back support to the state, not the “happy” couple. Apparently they needed state assistance because they weren’t able to support the baby. I don’t think the donor needs to pay the “happy” couple but has to pay back the state for what they ponied up. Keep it in your pants and don’t volunteer to be surrogate daddy donor.
Such utter nonsense.
A female who contracts with a male to provide sperm is, by the very contract, denying a parental role to the male. That is — she doesn’t want “a father” for the child, just a “creator.”
Unless there’s money involved later, apparently.
If you like your sperm, you can keep your sperm...
Nevertheless, he was stupid to have used his real name. He should have introduced himself as, “Ken”, and that’s all they should have known about him.
Well there's some logic for ya.
Did this "judge" care to point out what law requires a licensed physician to verify sperm-donor status?
Or did she just think it was "right"?
I mean, beside the contractual agreement between the actual parties who provided and received said sperm donation, respectively?
That will teach the guy...for the next 18 years. This guy is so stupid he deserves it even if the judge is a loon.
Well, they are lesbians, and without having seen them, I don't know for sure, but he may not have wanted to get....... On the other hand, do not ever try to help out any of these dip sticks.
I always considered it disgusting to be a sperm donor. You bring your son or daughter in the world with no concern for them.
The ruling is BS, but little sympathy for the guy.
Woman Attacks Her Wife With Turkey Baster Full of Sperm
Pittsfield, MA Stephanie K. Lighten, 26, allegedly tried to artificially impregnate her wife Jennifer A. Lighten, 33, against her will.
Jennifer Lighten told police that her wife was all liquored up when she allegedly tried to use a syringe to inseminate her, and that Stephanie had been talking about trying to impregnate her for some time. According to the police report Jennifer said that Stephanie had a turkey baster and her brothers semen in a sealed container. Jennifer said she told Stephanie that she didnt want to get pregnant. (According to police the turkey baster was actually a large syringe with a catheter tip.)
Thats allegedly when Stephanie threw Jennifer on the couch, grabbed at her clothes and threatened to impregnate her.
Jennifer broke free, ran into the bathroom and locked the door. When Stephanie broke the bathroom door down, she hurt her wrist in the process, and Jennifer escaped when Stephanie went to get an ice pack from the freezer. Jennifer attempted to get away in the couples SUV and as she tried to pull away, Stephanie jumped on the side of car and made Jennifer stop. A witness at the scene claimed Stephanie was hanging on the SUV door handle, trying to get into the car. Police arrived at the scene and arrested a very intoxicated Stephanie Lighten outside her home.
Police then confiscated the weapon, plus a container of semen and some aluminum foil, which was originally was used to hold the semen. Nicholas Lighten, Stephanie Lightens brother, was the donor, according to officers.
However, Pittsfield Detective Thomas H. Harrington said Jennifer Lighten declined to go forward with any charges of assault with intent to rape, because she did not believe Stephanie was going to sexually assault her with the syringe. Stephanie K. Lighten has been charged with domestic assault and battery.
She was released on personal recognizance after denying the allegations in Central Berkshire District Court last Wednesday.
Before her release, Central Berkshire District Court Judge Rita S. Koenigs cautioned Lighten to refrain from abuse and to return to court for an April 29 pretrial hearing. Neither of the Lightens has returned LGRs requests for comments at the time of publication. Stephanie Lightens MySpace page is now set to private.
Someday when I’m in charge of this country, I’ll make this judge pay the child support. After all, he agreed to hear the case without a licensed physician...
let this be a lesson to all those same-sex couples — no kids for you!
The baby clearly needs a father.
No sympathy here, he reaped what he sowed, literally.
Does anyone else wonder where one gets a turkey baster full of sperm? Do they get it on e bay, or do they order it up on some other online store? If she wants a baby so bad, why doesn't she just "do" herself?
I would sue for full custody, take my child and raise him/her with traditional values! What a ridiculous ruling.
Ridiculous ruling — if it stands then he should sue for full custody claiming that he has more rights to the child than anybody else.
Sorry. This one deserves eyewash.
Sounds like the definition of LOSER.
Once again this oldie: A gay young man from Khartoum, took a lesbian up to his room, but they argued all night as to who had the right, to do what and with which and to whom.
It’s the right decision and is consistent with marriage: You make a baby, you support the baby. And I would add that the government should get out of the business of throwing money at single moms. If that means bringing back state-funded orphanages, so be it. Government should be encouraging self-sufficiency and personal responsibility, not promoting the opposite through government funding.
Well, looking at the second picture made looking at the first one worth it...:)
I love limericks. Thanks.
I say the judge should pay as he’s the screwer of the screwer making him the screwer once removed.
I think men should be held responsible for where they plant their seed
