JACKSON, Miss. —Dan Aykroyd may have dodged the police in "The Blues Brothers," but in Hinds County, he carries a badge.
Sheriff Tyrone Lewis swore the legendary actor and comedian in as a deputy during a ceremony Friday.
"It's an honor to join these ranks today. I understand the challenges that law enforcement face in today's world," Aykroyd said. "I had some experience in Louisiana. I was down there for almost 16 years under two chiefs helping with some initiatives. I know that resources are challenged and that every day there is something that comes up that the executives have to deal with that surprises them."

Makes good publicity for the locals I guess.
They should make sure he uses a police dept cam that automatically breaks down at the first sign of misbehavior.
My B-I-L who lives in Natchez,(not the Lib one), got a Part in the Movie playing the Stage Manager in the Concert scenes.
He worked with Dan for a couple of days and couldn’t believe what a nice guy he was. Dan was friendly and helpful and he worked his butt off making sure the scenes worked. No Actor “attitude”. They got along very well.
Outside of being an Illegal Invader with a Hockey fetish, Ackroyd seems like an OK Guy.

This is too funny.
For years, many of us in the autism community have theorized that Akkroyd has Aspberger’s syndrome with a particular interest and focus on things having to do with law enforcement.
This would fit with that idea.
I'll settle for "immortal". Ghostbusters, Coneheads, SNL ... You know I'll never forget the very first moment I saw him as a Conehead. It was a cold intro. He was dressed as a leprechaun on some kind of glittery dais, and wearing floppy shoes and a big stovepipe hat. He flopped his way down the stairs and lifted the hat straight up to reveal his Conehead ... LIVE! Made no sense whatsoever ... never forget it.
He asked for, and received several "honorary badges", and even asked Nixon for one.
Rumor has it that Elvis would even pull people over for traffic infractions, flash his badge, and let them off with a "warning".
O/T, wasn't Aykroyd's dad a Mountie?
I know he's probably a lefty, but he's donated to a few republicans.
Maybe he has some respect for "law and order".
At least in a conservative/ honor sense.
Not the recent years "cops doing what they please" sense.
Heck, a joke actor like Steven Segal has been a real sheriff for many years.

We ran into Aykroyd in Manhattan at *
Hello Deli* waiting to go into a Letterman show, where Dan appeared as a guest ...[I can’t recall what new movie he was promoting.]
We chatted briefly, and he was very lovely. Quite the regular guy.....unlike the likes of Alan Alda who is rude and unengaged to fans.
And the ultimate liberal elitist? Al Franken.
Even his fellow cast members say he was a total a$$hole, back in the '70s when he was a NOBODY.
Harry Shearer (of Simpsons fame) was asked who the biggest jerk was at SNL and he said it was hard to say, but Franken was one of the top two.
I forget whether Billy Crystal was #1.
I've never heard a good word about Franken. Either in the '70s or today.
And these are people who WORKED with him.
Heck, Michael Medved, as squishy as he is, and hates nobody, actually hates Franken. He threw a chair at Michael once.
I can't believe that Minnesota "elected" this freak.
You can tell a person's character by how they treat the 'little people'.
Aykroyd is apparently a "good guy" in real life.

By and large, you are spot on. Alda would come into our business on a crowded weekend and immediately get recognized b/c of his basketball height....folks would get rebuffed and told * I don’t give autographs, I’ll shake your hand*....his wife OTH was lovely and *normal* [I believe she is/was a photographer in her own right.]
Another celeb who came in every weekend was Alan Arkan [his wife boarded horses nearby]....he was the loveliest gentleman.....funny and willing to engage anyone....people would look at him, do a double-take and look back again.... [he’s not the most recognizable personality in the world]....he’d always laugh and say *yes, It’s me*.....reach out and introduce himself and shake hands....perfectly willing to sign autographs]
Another guy who was a delight was Art Carney...when he was alive, lived in Westbrook, CT...drove an old beat-up Chevy station wagon. He loved to talk to the joe-sixpacks. Lovely, lovely man and one was apt to run into him at any of the local businesses.... chit-chatting.
Kate Hepburn was an elusive recluse....she hated being with the public and interacting with locals in Old Saybrook. No one in their right mind would try to engage her, probably for fear she’d bite their head off.
Once I was behind Paul Newman in a checkout line in a gourmet store in Westport. I didn’t know it was him, but others did, he turned around to look at me, saw my jaw drop and said *Yes, they are that blue*. I never said a word. LOL
I’ve had several encounters w/ Don Imus....and like his radio persona....he’s a jerk. So much for my encounters with celebs...boring...it’s unfortunate that they forget from whence they came.
I think Dan is probably a closet conservative. I liked him in a variety of things blues brothers, my girl, the great outdoors.
And, really, its almost unamerican to not like Elvis, IMHO.
