YUP ,, the map shows Brandy for the Philippines ... they must use some VERY loose definitions ... wine there is pricey ,,, most people drink rum which is high quality and cheap, beer is more expensive as it requires refrigeration ... the only thing that would qualify as brandy would be “tuba” coconut wine that might be slightly concentrated ,, nasty stuff but almost free ... real skid-row stuff.

Wrong. There is very little color in even the most sloppily distilled booze. The color usually comes from charred wood.
That’s strange, I live in Northern Virginia and most bars around here serve craft beers, even on tap. I haven’t had piss beer in years.
Not in MN. My local rural watering hole has all the commercial stuff plus local brews and a craft. My hometown eatery has Paulaner beer on tap.
If you can find it, try Orion from Okinawa.
Surprisingly good and I prefer it over Sapporo and Asahi.
The Japanese can brew some excellent beer.
When did they stop making Buckhorn? It was Olympia’s budget brand, IIRC, and about the only good thing you could say about it was that it was no worse warm than cold.

I haven’t seen Buckhorn in years. Back about 1983, when I was a poor law student, my college buddies roped me into going to the Indy 500. I could barely scrounge up $1.79 for a six pack of Buckhorn. Some kid came up to me at the track and asked for one of my empty cans. He collected beer cans and had never seen anyone drink a Buckhorn before.
Here in Texas try the 1836 bourbon. Excellent stuff.
My current favorite is Bulleit. My Sis lives in the heart of Bourbon country in KY and sends me some of the nice ones.
I’m partial to a good single malt scotch on occasion too...
Makes sense I guess.
Beer is relative though too, if someone hands you a frosty can of the most usually considered to be [insert favorite nasty animal piss here] when you’re in the middle of nowhere and it’s 115 degrees out, it’s all the sudden ambrosia dispensed from the bosom of a frost princess...
At the opposite end of the spectrum, me and a buddy were sans liquid water, and in shorts and T-shirts when we became “temporarily disoriented” while trying to scout out the trail for a backpack trip into a remote area. The amount of snow that had remained when we got to the other side of a ridge line was impressive and it was crusty enough to not leave tracks in a lot of places.
Right as we were contemplating locating a spot to settle in with a fire for the evening some guys on horseback rode into view, gave us a a couple Budweisers from a cooler on a pack horse and said they’d come in from the same parking area. Those were some pretty damn good beers, and no mention of the subject of “temporary disorientation” needed to be broached during the small talk with the knowledge of their ingress from the same parking area ;-)

If I’m going for a lot of low conductors while metal detecting, I’ll usually get at least a dozen of those suckers in various states of disarray.
Interesting sub note, from my finds, it appears that it was some type of local habit in the Oakland area to pull the leaf off the ring, or curl it over into itself. In either instance, it creates a signal that says “recover me!” far better than a straight, whole tab.
