I wonder how successful Wendy Davis will be in her attempts to deflect attention from reasonable concerns about the veracity of her earlier biographical narrative by continuing to focus on some outlying extreme sexist statements that have nothing at all to do with the legitimate questions that have been raised.
Noticably lacking from any of the media accounts, including (unless I've missed it) the conservative blogs, is anyone specifically calling her out on doing this. So I'm posting this vanity to raise the issue, since naturally to many low-information voters, something obvious like this could go unnoticed unless it is explicitly pointed out.
For starters, let's imagine what might happen if anytime some reasonable question arose from the left, instead of answering that question directly, a representative on teh right instead tried to either falsely associate the comment with, or simply change the subject to, some outlandish and loosely related thing said by some loon on the left.
For example, one could simply bring up the fact that:
* Rolling Stones Matt Taibbi said of Michelle Malkin: Now when I read her stuff, I imagine her narrating her text, book-on-tape style, with a big, hairy set of b**** in her mouth.
* MSNBCs Ed Schultz referred to Laura Ingraham as a right wing slut,
* Keith Olbermann called Michelle Malkin a mashed-up bag of meat with lipstick.
* Bill Maher called Sarah Palin the "C" word and a "dumb tw** (same meaning as "C" word)"
Also, let's compare the misogynist jerks on the left and the right, both of whom should be renounced by for making extreme statements. But while many on the right are arguably guilty of either muted indignation or even silience, my impression has been that too many on the left react even more inappropriately than that, by finding some excuses to either tolerate, or even mildly approve, of these offenses. A common them seems to be that because these women are expressing right-wing views that they find offensive, then they deserve it.
So I have to wonder if these folks would go so far as to agree with Comedian Sarah Bernhardt's comments that Palin would deserve to be ""gang-raped by my big black brothers" if she dared to walk through her neighborhood.
But naturally, my argument is that these are all either loons, or at best, otherwise reasonable people who lapsed into a moment of lunacy, and in either case their vile statements should not be used to either misrepresent, or to deflect from, any legitimate debates worthy of discussion coming from the left.
Likewise, we should not allow Ms. Davis or her supporters to use this same tactic to evade legitimate questions and criticisms that reasonable folks have raised about the veracity of her prior sympathy-inducing, heart-warming, red-state-voter-wooing, pulled-myself-up-by-my-bootstraps narrative.
Who does Wenchy Davis hang out with these daze (given that she has abandoned her daughters)?
I hope Wendy Davis buys up all the Girl Scout cookies nationally, because I know a lot of people who are not buying this year.
The issue was that she deliberately tried to give a different impression about being a single mother putting herself through undergraduate and graduate school. By omission it was implied that she did this all by herself with no help from anyone. (And it is not material who gave her help, it is only material that she omitted that she received ANY help at all).
This is very strange given the liberal’s “you didn’t build that” meme and “it takes a village meme” etc.
But conservatives blew it. They latched onto insignificant issues instead of the important ones:
1. Her misrepresentation of her personal story to deliberately mislead voters
2. Her extreme stance on late term abortion, which she also misleads voters by omission because her stance is not to be found in her official political bio.
She now is trying to paint herself as pro-life and is side stepping the abortion issue altogether. It’s all about an unfunded plan for education now. Go figure.
I really don’t like this Windy woman. Come on Texas, show her the door.
Wendy Davis? You mean the woman grandstanding for abortion while her supporters were calling out “hail Satan”?
I don’t her either ;-)
Best is to not interfere when your adversary is self inflicting damage.
Don’t worry about Wendy. She’s got a surprise coming in November.
I do not think wants to be governor.
I think that she is getting national name recognition. In another 2 years her personal life won’t matter to the Lo-Fo voters.
She is planning to supplant The wife of Monica Lewinski’s boyfriend as Satan’s Prom Queen
I wonder if she is actually delusional and believes her own stories, or if they are deliberate lies. Either way, power is the last thing that should be in her hands.
This is getting so much play and it’s still months away until she will face the
GOP candidate in the general election. It seems as if the Davis campaigns wants
this to play out now so it becomes old news by the General Election voting.
IMO Davis will win the democrat primary and come Sep/Oct is when she has to be
exposed and defeated by the GOP.
You are prolly right. She must have watched how AlSharpton and Jesse ran for Prez, with no expectation other than raking in the dough.
