Night class is in session. Homework on the blackboard, apples on my desk. I will get to class in the morning when I get there.
Ran calls tonight covering for a fellow squad member. We had another 20 something CPR. Similar to the last one. Took a lot out of me. I need to sleep in in the morning, so I am posting this tonight. Heroin cut with fentanyl. Nasty deadly stuff. It’s in the area, the hospital staff said they are seeing a lot of it. No autopsy yet, but that is the assumed cause at this point. So sad, a four year old little boy asking why daddy isn’t getting up. Heartbreaking.
Came home after midnight with puke all over the front of me. Yeah, charming, I know. Airway is a dirty job.
At the debrief we explained to the newbies that it is not an “overdose”, but illegal drugs. All the EMTs were in agreement, so there SD.
The Immigration proposals of the the Republicans will earn them nothing but imprecations from their base.
Henry Nostrilla Waxman’s announced retirement yesterday brought back memories of his many uttered imprecations on the TEA Party.
Heroin cut with fentanyl! Those people are desperately hooked ... and stupid.
You are doing the job that few people could possibly endure. God bless and keep you, dearest tioga.
Imprecation is the name of a heavy metal band based in a town where I once lived — Missouri City, TX.
Maybe they are nice fellows, but their pictures look like the sort of folks who might be involved in your heroin trade. (BTW we are having the same problem in this county. In fact, County officials held a ‘heroin’ summit in conjunction with the Republican Party on Wednesday night this week. I didn’t go, since I didn’t think that I had anything to add.)
Thanks for thinking to post last night. Hope you can rest today.
I don’t know why there was disagreement over this. Overdose, in common parlance, indicates too much of something. This was not too much, this was an illegal substance specifically created by mixing two things together. They didn’t take too much of it, it was a deadly mixture.
Sorta like ammonia and bleach. Sure you'll have clean floors, but you're imprecating your lungs and eyes to the caustic fumes of chloramine.
I hope you get some needed rest today.
Heroin, is a nasty thing....because of the small amounts in which it kills.
Not in the category of lesser items that should be decriminalized.
That’s the stuff. The police have set up a special hotline for tips on it. In bags marked “Theraflu,” “Bud Ice” or “Income tax.”
If they are dying, then they took too much. They took too much because they were not expecting a much stronger drug to be mixed in with their heroin.
It’s a semantical thing. If I normally inject half a syringe and I injected half a syringe today, I have in one sense given myself the same quantity. So it is not a change in dose.
But if the substance injected is stronger, then I have taken more of the “active ingredient” and have overdosed in that sense.
If I normally drink a gallon of beer and instead drink a gallon of wine, I have taken the same quantity, but ingested more of the active ingredient. If I do this unwittingly, I could drink too much.
Found your example:
In order to be the worst person ever to be president,
Obama underwent intense imprickation during his education.
That is how adulterants cause overdoses, as in this mixture.
Libs curse the rich, use imprecation
“They’re thieves” is their clear implication
They bring in false data
And extend it, pro rata
“Garbage in and out” amplification
I think it’s time to do away with the minimum wage. Let the market decide.
A+++ clueless elites won’t care.
A+++ oh, yeah, he doesn’t pass the smell test. good thing he is leaving.
A+++ fools and their drugs, is it really a surprise they meet a bad end?
Awake at 9am. Too early, but I woke up and couldn’t doze off again. Oh, well. I do this again tonight at 6pm, for my weekend shift. Done at 6pm Saturday.
Interesting usage. A+++
I did. Thanks.
A classic! A+++
His friends said “hillbilly heroin”, but they meant real heroin cut with stuff. a quick google search last night said something else entirely.
A+++ Enemy #1 to a lib = a rich republican.
The ER staff was amazing. The doc and staff continued to work the CPR for another half hour after we got him there. PEA was still present. The compassion was evident, from everyone involved. Some nights everything is done, things go smoothly, yet the outcome is preordained to be bad.
And that’s all we can do, is our best. It makes it easier to deal with the outcome over time.
Try and grab a nap this afternoon.
Listen, I’m not invested in this argument. What ti says makes intuitive sense to me. If that’s her department’s policy, if that’s what they designate on the death certificate as cause of death I assume it’s been signed off on by whatever policy maker.
Honesty is best. Our trainer is a paramedic who teaches at the local college. He taught us that the word “overdose” is a misnomer and confuses folks. ANY dose of heroin or cocaine can kill the first time it’s taken. People need to know the illegal street products can be cut with anything. Meth is notorious for the crap in it. All of it is deadly, that is WHY it is illegal. Take that stuff and risk your life every time. That is the message.
I think that is largely nonsense.
Dinner was fun last night. The DJ is a family friend who has both a sports announcing and DJ biz. He does music at Caps games, is a hockey ref (has actually put the groom in the sin bin during beer league games) and announced the gonzaga hockey games. He is a WEALTH of wedding knowledge from his own and the other weddings he’s done. One invaluable suggestion was to make sure ANCC has a room for the bridal couple to relax and eat in after pix during the cocktail hour and before launching into the full reception. He’s perfect also for figuring out the timing of things like my nephew the concert pianist to play a selection for the bride and groom and to show the video xsbaby is making for the occasion in lieu of a maid of honor toast. He’s also willing to accommodate xshub who wants to take over DJ duties for a set since he’s obsessed with EDM. That prospect is terrifying to the rest of us but as the person stroking the check we can’t really prohibit it! Do you remember Rony Seikely? Former SU bball player, Miami heat, son of a Greek oil tycoon? He’s currently a dj in Miami. Xshub would love that gig . It’s horrifying !! LOL!
Our youngest was shocked to find out her dad was a DJ in college. She thought it was the coolest thing. We have several friends who have done that earlier in life, for weddings and parties and never would have guessed if they hadn’t told us.
It will be memorable. LOL Sounds like this is a happy time for all of you. I am happy to share the process with you.
Oh Ti, how heartbreaking - I hope your community knows how lucky they are to have volunteers who do what you do! Nurses and paramedics get paid to do that but you fill a void for your neighbors. I hope you get some rest today
How does someone who purchases illegal drugs know if they are cut with something deadly? Pot can be laced with PCP with dangerous consequences. As Ti said, heroin can kill on first use in some cases. Dose means a prescribed amount for a person/patient to take for a specific ailment. So illegal drugs have no doseage
And how neat that your daughter is doing a video slide show. I did one for the reception and it just looped over and over on the tv screens they had on several walls. One great photo of my daughter and her husband dancing has a shot of their baby pictures up on the wall behind them
A private room so the just-married couple can “rest”?
An excellent argument for legalizing and regulating, isn’t it?
Stop making sense.....
Heroin? No it isn’t.
One of our sons graduated from Texas Tech in Engineering. It was a good school for him. Of our 4 children, it was the only one (at the bachelor’s level) where the Dean came over to us at the reception after graduation and acted as if he actually knew our son. Now our grandson wants to go to Tech. Hopefully he’ll get a scholarship because it will be out of state for the GS.
I have to tell a nice story about Tech and the humanity of thier professors. Duruing finals week my son’s last year, one of his former roomates (and our former neighbor) was found passed out in front of the TV in his apartment. His current roommates called MY son to figure out what to do. The young man (20) was admitted to the hospital and was found to be suffering from advanced testicular cancer.
My son was disignated to be the go-between with the stricken man’s family until they could get to Lubbock from Houston, and our son began a 24 hour watch at the hospital. Arrangements were made to fly the young man to Houston for treatment at M.D. Anderson, but he died before the plane landed in Lubbock. Our son accompanied the body to the plane and supervised as it was loaded aboard.
During all this chaos, our son encountered one of his professors at the hospital who asked why he was there. Joe explained, and the prof said, “Don’t worry about your final exam. I already know enough about your work to give you your final grade. Just take care of your friend.”
In the 3 days that Kevin lived after being hospitalized, at least a dozen of his high school friends trekked to Lubbock to visit and to grieve. They all crashed at Joe’s apartment.
I thought it was more than decent for Joe’s prof to give him a pass on his final exam, and I’ve always respected and appreciated them for that.
Sorry for all the typos in that. I guess I was getting emotional again.
Pot, or tobacco. Dust is the worst.
I was always glad Crust never caught on.
(Crack, crushed, spread and smoked over a dusted blunt)
