A Christian college in Wisconsin is dropping its Crusaders nickname after nearly 50 years, claiming the moniker has become outdated in a more global society, university officials told FoxNews.com.
Maranatha Baptist University in Watertown and its Division III athletic teams have used the name since its founding in 1968. Matt Davis, the universitys executive vice president, said no complaints have been received by the school and stressed that it coincides with its name change from Maranatha Baptist College in December.
But I also agree that times change and we understand that context changes, Davis told FoxNews.com. Our world has changed since 9/11 and weve become a more global society with the Internet. The heartbeat behind this was not political correctness, but expanded opportunities for our students.

Our world has changed since 9/11”
Muslims murder countless Americans and you respond by changing your name from something that offends them?
Pathetic.
I was thinking the “Dhimmis”.
I'm here to help find another name
The Jellyfish?

Either this is a pre-surrender or a misguided gesture of attracting ‘more global’ student enrollment.
Wonder what they teach the students when facing persecution - “Brave Sir Robin” should be their new mascot and fight song.
Let me count the number of killings perpetrated by “Crusaders” in the past couple hundred years.
Zero?
How about those conducted by muslims in the name of their religion? Are we up to millions?
This happened to my college 15 years ago (or so). Wheaton is now the Thunder. Real cutting-edge.
We used to have a lively rivalry with Valparaiso, as they were the Crusaders, too. There was a crusader shield at stake every time we played a game.
Now, with only Valpo bearing the name, those rivalries have dissipated (there are other reasons, too, of course). To me it is sad to bend to the breezes of the blowhards.
Translated: “We’re afraid of our own shadow.”
translation: We need to admit a whole lot more foreign students to balance the budget.
In modern Christian thinking “Crusader” has everything to do with doing spiritual battle and nothing to do with the middle ages conquests against perceived and actual enemies. Note, no Christian mascot is ever called the Conquistador. Is being a “Crusader” against crime, a crime? Is a “Crusader” for truth and justice someone who is insensitive to muslim sensitivities? I doubt it. If anything, the term “Crusader” can be elaborated on in spiritual terms and provide for a platform to speak truth to a world of deception. Every capitulation that is made to faux outrage, is a surrendering of what is good and true to that which is evil and deceptive.
This is gonna be a blow to Crusader Rabbit, I’ll bet.
To be more PC will they now call themselves the Corsairs???

They better drop the name “Christian” as well, since it offends Muslims and atheists.
Why do they mention 9/11 as a reason behind the change, if this really has nothing to do with political correctness?
I think this shows how deeply politically correct and liberal thought has permeated our society.
The Vics
Me too - How about the limp wristed pants wetters...
Should have changed it to “Jihadi.”
