EU merges milk and fruit school scheme to combat child obesity

To promote healthier lifestyles and combat obesity among school children, the European Commission has proposed to bring two separate EU schemes on milk and fruit together under a joint framework. […]

Dacian Cioloş, the EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, said the EU executive wanted to build on the existing schemes to reverse the downward trend in consumption of fruit and milk and raise awareness among children of the potential benefits of the products. […]

Asked during a press briefing whether the EU had any legal base to act in this area, Cioloş said such schemes can be justified as part of EU-funded programs to promote healthier lifestyles. …

Want to end childhood obesity? Make 'em get off their sorry, lazy a**es after school, put down the X-Box and the Doritos, and go pick that fruit, and milk some cows!

If no fruit trees or dairy cows are nearby, have 'em do some freakin' chores.
