Colonel Meow, one of the Internets most famous cats and a Guinness World Records-holder, has died. He was two.
Anne Marie Avey, Meows owner, announced his passing on Facebook Thursday evening.
"Colonel Meow passed away yesterday evening. I will post more about the details when Ive had a few days to grieve, the message reads. Thank you so much for your understanding, Minions. Your love and support has meant the world to us both.
In 2011, Meow was rescued by the Himalayan and Persian Society in Seattle after he was abandoned on the side of a road, and later adopted by Avey.
The Colonel rose to fame after his owners posted photos of the crabby-looking feline to Facebook and Instagram, instantly gaining thousands of followers or minions, as Meow calls them.
In 2013, Meow was inducted to the Guinness World Records for having the longest fur.
Following the announcement of Meows passing, cat lovers took to social media to mourn the Colonel, including Grumpy Cat, another feline Internet celebrity.
Grumpy Cat was in mourning? HOW COULD THEY TELL?
Oh, too bad. Hairball?
Henri, btw, was the first winner of the International Cat Video Festival. Check him out if you haven't done so. He's my fave.
Light, or full bird? Either way- making colonel in two years is one hell of an achievement. Either that- or his command had an insane attrition rate.
“He was two.”
More great journalism. He was picked up by the Humane Society as a full-grown cat in 2011, but he was two?!
I have an old lady going on 20. Still pretty spry despite the arthritis.
