If you thought it was cold where you are at the moment then a visit to the Russian village of Oymyakon might just change your mind.
With the average temperature for January standing at -50C, it is no wonder the village is the coldest permanently inhabited settlement in the world.
Known as the 'Pole of Cold', the coldest ever temperature recorded in Oymyakon was -71.2C.
Unsurprisingly, locals are hardened to the weather and unlike in other countries - where a flurry of snow brings things grinding to a halt, Oymyakon's solitary school only shuts if temperatures fall below -52C. (-61.6 F)
The frozen ground makes it difficult for working indoor plumbing, so most toilets are outhouses.

Pretty cool (pun intended). And no political prisoners as far as the eye can see . . . .
But for a short time in the summer, it does get hot. Average high is 73 in July.
Wow. I bet that they get their “business” done in short order in those ice-cold outhouses! :-)
prolly easy to wear depends
BRRRrrrrr,,Ivana tellyou sumting.
By reading that article I just found out Phillip Seymour Hoffman OD’d today.
I’d hate to think of the jog through -50 weather to use the out house.

She would keep you warm!! Russian women are beautiful.
Staying warm is a full time task.
WOW!
January temperature at -58 degrees Fahrenheit!
Just think how much colder it would be if we didn’t have man-made global warming.....
After living seventy miles from Fairbanks, I have had my share of cold weather...-60. It looks as though they keep the extreme cold temperatures for a long time instead of just periodically. Therein lies the problem. The longer it is cold, problems multiply fast. We all have
heater plug-ins for batteries and block and you
know when to use them. There are plug-ins everywhere
up here and people leave there cars running for hours
at a time. Most people have auto start so they can
start their cars to warm up at a distance. Our water
lines are 8 ft. deep and you can’t just insulate, you
must use plastic too are frost will creep in everywhere.
I wear two sets of cleats on my boots as there is ice everywhere since we had a few warm days that left the snow a sheet of ice.
We are starting to see more sunlight and by March our days
will be bright all the time until it never gets dark
in June. I love that. Anyway, it is a different
way of life but I’m able to get out and snow machine
most of the winter and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
There isn’t a stop light on the road going south for
450 miles. I can only go north 70 miles until I
reach a stoplight. There are no roads going east or
west as that except for a few dirt roads is vast wilderness.
I don’t dream of being on a beach, but
I do love the summer as the weather is perfect.
I am glad I moved to Alaska.
Yeah, cold is like high heat, you can only take it in small doses.
RIP
All I can say is that place needs more C02!!
prolly easy to wear depends

True.
Wonder if they even know about Depends.
