Word For The Day, Monday, 2/3/14
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
1. in a dying state; near death. 2. on the verge of extinction or termination. 3. not progressing or advancing; stagnant: a moribund political party.
Etymology: 1721, "about to die," from Fr. moribund (16c.), from L. moribundus "dying," from mori "to die" (see mortal). Fig. sense of "near an end" is from 1837.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Here is my example with WFTD.
The GOP's hopes for 2014 electoral victory, now moribund, will be DOA, should immigration reform pass.
miserable day in DC, raining cats and dogs but 39 deg.
Snowed in here in NJ.....Got the phone call from my employer to stay home!!!!!
well how nice for you! it’s too warm here, unforch!
Is it not ironic that within six months of launching the ACA, it being touted as the health care fix, that it itself is moribund?
yes, but it still has to be gotten rid of! A+++
Well, for those of you that remember the “Where’s the Beef!” commercials,
the little old lady was complaining that there was moribund than burger!
RIP Clara! A+++
Living in Florida, I’ve learned to accept the fleeting, moribund nature of winters.
A+++ a fleeting winter is a good thing!
I used to like snow.....I don’t....I want to see a crocus!!!!!
Until we can be rid of B Hussein Obama, the Republic is definitely in a moribund state.
i agree, i am so ready for winter to be over. my husband is from upstate NY. i told him i would go with him anywhere but there. and this winter has northern VA looking like upstate NY. cars covered in salt, roads and sidewalks gritty with salt, snow in the yard and frigid temps! not good!
A+++ he is a living cancer.
Effing snowing here. Dang phone rang at 5 for school closure.
Upstate NY is great for snowmobiling....that’s it!!!!!! And yes I hate salt....it’s all over....I wash my car all the time and it gets salty again...I’m going to build a snowman and run it over!!!!!
oh boy. are they out of snowdays yet? Fairfax Co. has to go on Presidents day now, if there are more they will have to start extending the school year.
my husband washed my car last weekend, and this weekend again, so it’s not too bad. But i hate the grit!
Washed and wiped it down Friday, it’s garaged but will be a mess tomorrow ):
