Change the Life of a Student...Be a Mentor Thank you so much to those who dedicated their time and expertise to the mentor program this past fall. Without you, this program would not continue to succeed in the capacity it has. The time has now come to sign up for the spring semester. To date, only 2 physicians have signed up. We need 35. Can we count on you for this semester? If so, please notify Courtney Vogel or sign up online below. The deadline is Friday, February 7, 2014. Please consider taking the time to mentor a pre-med student from either UW-Milwaukee or Marquette University. They are sincerely appreciative of the opportunity to job shadow a physician for a half day.

Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you.

sign up online TODAY

I don't think they are going to get 33 mentors by 2/7/14. Its a sign of the times. Physicians are not recommending their own profession.

I can just imagine what dim bulbs they are being asked to “mentor”

“Doctors are demoralized”

Slavery does that to a person.

I used to live on Maryland Ave., about two blocks from UW-Mil, but I mostly “mentored” Marquette girls!

“i don’t know any doctors who will let their kids go to medical school now....”

Some of my colleagues, those who have made lots of investments and have enough money to leave their children so that they think thy will be okay no matter what, have kids in medical school.

I would not dissuade my child, but am certainly not encouraging. I love this profession, but we are demoralized, and are most certainly an early target of what is shaping up to be an American version of the Chinese cultural revolution.

I asked my doctor if he’d choose medicine again under present conditions. He said ‘probably’ without a great deal of enthusiasm.

Another of my docs said yes, but is very concerned about her future and the future of the field. They’re becoming simply technicians and paper pushers.

I would want my child to go to medical school. When healthcare becomes scarce your child will be able to barter his or her skills with other doctors so your family may actually get treatment.

Think of a physician.

Any physician.

Now, try to imagine what this educated and dedicated individual thinks when he/she imagines the clueless quota boy telling them what to do. People who couldn’t pass the simplest pre-med math or science class. People to whom simple logic is Mount Everest. People who have no ability and no morals.

Now add bimbos and bimboys of ginormous idiocy such as the Pelosi wench, the Boxercretin, Bawney Fwank, Nostralitis Waxman, and of course, the ultimate clown, Kerry.

Would not you also be a bit disgruntled?

Your thinking makes good sense. But just for me, I still wouldn’t wish a government-dictated medical career on my kids..... even if that were a means of securing medical care for ourselves when the government “benefits” officers or “death panels” say NO. I think I would prefer pursing the same goal by having my kids save enough money doing whatever lines of work they’re most interested in...hopefully... so that we could still pay for any medical care we might not be able to get from Uncle Obama. SO FAR anyway, money (or if you prefer, gold and silver) still works.....
I do like your thinking tho... in that we are going to have a lot LESS access to health care.. and especially anything serious or expensive....when the govt finishes taking it all over. For sure.
