Posted on 02/04/2014 11:20:06 AM PST by Uncle Chip
A girl scout selling cookies was left traumatised after a customer pulled a gun as he opened the door.
The seven-year-old and her father were fundraising on Strawberry Tree Lane in Temecula, California, with a tin of baked goods on Sunday morning.
But at 11.30am she knocked on a door and was met with a deadly weapon.
The pair scarpered, horrified, and called the police. John Michael Dodrill, 59, has been arrested and charged with the offence, and is due to appear in court tomorrow....
Her father, who witnessed the alleged offence, called the police.
Two handguns and two rifles have been seized from Dodrill's home, reports claim.....
[And don't you just love the way this article ends with a commercial for Girl Scout Cookies]
The girl is a member of the San Gorgonio Girl Scouts, which will join its sister groups in celebrating National Girl Scout Cookie Day this weekend.
The sale of Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, and other favorites bring in $790 million each year.
The trade is also touted as a way to give young girls invaluable life experiences, and to teach them about the values of business ethics and people skills.
Girls are encouraged to get out and 'spread the word' to potential customers this Friday and Saturday.
Scouts spokesman Jua-Nita Houston said the girl was shaken by the incident but would not be deterred from fundraising.
Ms Houston said: 'She set very strong goals for herself, and shes going to meet those goals.'

I'm sure there has to be a special merit badge in there for her somewhere from the GSA.
It was probably the scarpering that traumatized her...
Yep. I learned a new word today.
>>>> Two handguns and two rifles have been seized from Dodrill’s home, reports claim.....
Not only the guy was arrested then charged with ‘assault’, his properties also confiscated.
Next time I’ll use Joe Biden’s advise: 12 Gauge shotgun through the door.
That sounds ominous.
"You have been charged with The Offence.
You have been tried for The Offence.
A jury of your peers has found you found guilty The Offence.
I hereby sentence you to The Punishment".
The author certainly won’t get a merit badge for “spilling”.
the perps resume...
oddly i didnt see the obamcare website mentioned....
Someone I don’t know comes walking and knocking on my door, I’d be armed up, too.
Wouldn’t actually SHOW my weaponry until threatened, though.
“Online jail records reveal Dodrill had been in custody less than two hours before the girl arrived on his doorstep.”
That’s either great police work or poor writing.
Are there a lot of home invasions in Temecula?
Hey! That HAS to be prior restraint, or something...
...time travel, perhaps.
Besides how does a homeowner to know the guy tag along the ‘girl scout’ not her “accomplis”????
So...did the perp threaten the child? Or, is it now illegal to answer the door with a handgun? Granted, his photo looks rough, but that alone doesn’t make him a criminal.
The article seems to indicate that he had been in custody a couple of hours before this ‘incident’.
Must be more here than I’m seeing. Of course, I’m old, so...
Bindun last week...on this thread: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3118377/posts
We have a mini-fan-club for the word. :)
What was the charge?
Maybe next time you'll buy the cookies.
Probably just a lot of girl scouts selling cookies —
Well sign me up! I love the word.
It sounds like something out of “Jabberwocky”.
I guess it means like “skedaddled”.
That, or the dude had just gotten released from custody two hours prior to pulling the gun on the Girl Scout. Which is how I read it.
What the article doesn’t state is there is a gang of midgets dressed as Girl Scouts doing home invasions in the area.
Very brutal, kicking people in the shins thus disabling their defenses.
It’s just not a good idea to go door to door selling anything these days.
According to this story, it was a shotgun....
“Police seized numerous weapons from the home of the 59-year-old Temecula man who was arrested after allegedly pointing a shotgun at a 7-year-old Girl Scout selling cookies door-to-door, said Temecula Police Sgt. Daniel Decker.”
Sounds to me like there is more to the story, I wonder if we will ever hear it.
Arent the Girl Scouts Mass Murderers of babies ?
and that was just for a 10 oz box of Samoans.
Some people get pretty upset when they run out of thin mints
Weird... Doesn’t sound like some hardened criminal type.
Doubtful... Doesn’t fit the template.
Last summer, I saw a man run at top speed through my large fenced back yard, to the front yard, at a full run. I grabbed my handgun and threw open the front door, hiding the weapon. The man was standing on my front porch, out of breath, about to knock on the door. Turned out to be one of my lawn guys, just checking to see if I needed a mow out back. Glad I didn’t scalper the poor guy.
Yes, widely used over there. = immediately ran off
Incidentally, the woman who was indicted for firing a warning shot at her threatening sig-other made a big error by calling it a warning shot -- she should have said she fired AT him, but missed, and she would have been fine.
That would be the Planned Parenthood organization the GSA leadership supports and the rank and file parents seem not to know about.
The Chicago Way.....
Hmmm, I recently got flamed here because I mentioned Girl Scouts selling door to door...was told I was stupid, they didn’t do that anymore. Well who’s stupid now?
I come to the door with a gun
if I knew it a mass murderer.
I would come to the door with a gun
if I knew it a mass murderer.
The girl is lucky is wasn't Joe Biden's house...
He also seems to be a conservative, from the amount of stuff about the constitution on his website.
I am highly skeptical that he ever pointed the gun at the girl. I have seen way too many hoplophobes make that claim just because they see someone with a gun. One webpost even recommended that people say that when desribeing open carriers to police.
I would very much like to hear his side of the story.
In my opinion, having a gun in your hand when you open to door is just being prudent.
Do you do that when you open the door???
Very often. Usually it is in a holster.
You must live in a high crime area
In this day and age, who in their right mind would send their little kids to bang on strangers doors?
