FULL TITLE: ‘Ridiculous’: How a Firefighter Ended Up in Handcuffs While Helping Victims at Scene of Serious Car Accident
While responding to a Tuesday night rollover accident in Chula Vista, Calif., a police officer and firefighter got into a dispute over where the fire engine should park. The verbal altercation ended with the uniformed firefighter in handcuffs.
The California Highway Patrol officer reportedly demanded the firefighter move the fire engine off the center divide. He refused and continued to treat the crash victims at the scene.
KFMB-TV captured the argument and ensuing arrest on video:

When two agencies such as these officially respond to an emergency. The Fire Chief is always #1 man in control of ALL assets on the scene. All the cops know this as well as all the firemen. Until the Fire Chief relinquishes control, the cops are just there to help out as directed.

Yep, and if the Fireman instantly complied and the victim
died because of it the cop would have lied like an Obama
about it. The fuzz would have been laughing about it in
the station parking lot where they hang out playing
quick draw gun fighter.
Doubt that happened. Generally speaking, Firemen are drawn from a better class of human being than cops are.

Damned the backed up traffic. If it was one of my own laying in the street, I’d park in the middle of the freeway too. They can yell and curse me all they want...I ain’t moving until the injured are secure.

I can’t tell if the CHP guy is an Obama son or a non-White Hispanic. Either way he’s a real jerk. Hope he never needs EMT services. He might be waiting a while.

Not to mention the crash victim if they can prove the cop impacted the level of care they would have otherwise received.
This is madness.
Firefighters have always operated within a military style command structure. After 9/11 incident command was further codified. The cop should have at least been through the basic FEMA National Incident Management System classes (NIMS. Unless the cop was the incident commander, which he wasn’t, he was wrong.
Now the chip guy will sue for the sht he eats....give it 6 mo.

if that was a relative of mine and they died due to this cop’s behavior, he and his family would have to go into hiding
The crash occurred on the center divide, there were 2 vehicles involved, 6 patients, 1 known minor injury. The squad crew pulled past the fire engine, then it blocks the lane to provide a safe working area, (per FD SOP). Before we go further, it should be noted that the MFD normally have-and are quite proud of-the excellent relationship they enjoy daily with the CHP and area law enforcement officers. This is an isolated and rare incident.
At this point the recently assigned (very new to that area) CHP officer tells the Battalion Chief that the apparatus cannot block the lane because it will cause too much traffic backup, and to move the rig. The Battalion Chief tells him no, that he needs his crew protected until they take up from the run. About one minute from the time the BC goes on scene, the BC is now on the radio asking for a CHP supervisor to be sent to the scene. Next thing the crew saw was the CHP officer handcuffing/arresting the Battalion Chief.
At this point, the Firefighters had not even made patient contact yet. The CHP officer then goes to the Fire Captain and tells him the same thing, move the engine or “I am going to arrest you and the (Fire Engineer) as well”. Then the CHP Officer called for a heavy tow truck to tow the fire apparatus off the freeway.
Everything else I can find on it just has everyone apologizing all over each other.
Another story says that CHP has jurisdiction , and Im sure thats the case when law enforcement is the issue, but completely irrelevent with 1st responders rendering aid.
I sure hope no CHP’s houses catch fire in Chula Vista.
Capt. David Wilson won $7,500 in compensatory damages and $10,000 in punitive damages.
Jurors, including a nun, said they went easy on the defendant, Officer Todd Greeves, because he has a family and they weren’t sure who would pay the bill.
Wilson testified that the Robertson Fire Protection District truck was parked in a way to protect rescuers working to free a victim from wreckage along Interstate 270 at McDonnell Boulevard.
Greeves ordered that the truck be moved to accommodate passing traffic and arrested Wilson for ignoring him.

That was my first thought when I read the title of this article. What a dumb SOB that egomaniac cop is.

You said it. You never used to have second thoughts pointing to an officer and telling your kids, “That is who you go to if you’re lost or in trouble.”
I tried telling my kids that at a recent community event where the CHP had a booth and the cop (another kid really) acted like a complete ass. How disappointing.
