My aunt died of COPD, after a lot of suffering. She smoked a lot all her life, but didn’t think that was what caused it (couldn’t be her beloved cigs). She was convinced that living through the Dust Bowl in Kansas when she was a child. I think it was probably both. It’s hard to fathom, but in the worst years of the Dust Bowl there were times that she and my mother had to sleep with damp cloths over their mouth and nose to try to keep from inhaling the dust.

In addition to our experience with our Dad I worked for 20 years in a large hospital's ER.I'd encourage you to tell your husband that hanging out for a single 8 hour shift in a busy ER would motivate him to quit...*big time*! Promise him a lifetime supply of Nicorette gum and/or patches....or tell him you'll leave him and empty the bank accounts before you do.Or say to him "I'll take up crack cocaine to keep you company".

Ugly isn't the word for what awaits him unless he quits now.

I am surprised that more people didn't die of dust pneumonia back during the dust bowl years. Dust is irritating to the lungs and there were no antibiotics when the irritation developed into an infection.

I see so many people hauling around their oxygen tanks that I am surprised that anyone who has a clue is still smoking.

At least Mr Nimoy is doing this while he is still alive. Yul Brynner did it posthumously

My dad smoked unfiltered cigarettes for 40 years then died 39 years later at the age of 91. Luckily it wasn’t lung related.

"He is 82, did he want to live for ever?"

I'm not going to condemn Mr. Nimoy for saying this, now, but he must have pretty good genes.

Shatner made a film of himself and Nimoy talking about the "old days", death, life, etc.

Nimoy admitted he was an alcoholic as well as a heavy smoker.

I don't think he got into drugs.

But 82 is a pretty good run for someone who indulged heavily.

Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins ...

I don't know what he was smokin' here, but it obviously wasn't tobacco.

Most definitely. I might drink a beer this weekend in honor of his long life.

You need to get passed that for your own well being. Smokers will do that, but find your inner peace.

May the dear lady rest in peace. We never know how it’s going to end for us, smokers and non-smokers alike.

I have a B-I-L who smokes a pack of Camels a day, has done since age 16. He is now 86 years old, and dating an actress. (She has been seen on Law and Order and in summer stock, in upstate NY.) He eats filet mignon three nights a week at an Irish pub, where all the waitresses have named their first son after him because he is such a huge tipper!

Life is beautiful.

When it’s time to go, you go.

Just be kind to everyone you meet along the way.

It wasn’t released until after his death. they chose to run it because they felt it would still have a serious emotional impact on its audience. They were right.

Yes. I hate Nimoy's insane leftist politics, but I love this man.

As a kid I always wanted to be Spock.

In the interview with Shatner, they talk about death.

Shatner says: "You know It's always over my shoulder. I must admit it bothers me."

Nimoy replies: "It really doesn't bother me. In fact I hardly think about it."
