This winter has been horrible. I work in transportation logistics, and finding carriers to pick up freight has been a nightmare.

Grand Traverse Bay and the straits are ice-locked I see.
Lake Michigan looks predominately ice-free so I guess the snow will continue to fall on the western lower peninsula.

That’s pretty cool.
Not very often that happens.

The local consensus (NE Iowa) is that we've had colder winters; we've had snowier winters; we've even had windier winters, but this year has seen all three in remarkably miserable combinations that seem interminable. The farmland portions of my commute have often been knuckle-whiteners this year due to the blowing snow, and local drivers have told me that it has been an "interesting" winter.

(Not the exact terminology, but good enough.)

We're not in the same league as the Great Lakes, but many places around here that usually have ample open water even in cold weather are frozen over this year.

This snow and cold has got to stop! I have Cabin Fever so bad that I looked at the headline and thought, “ Wow. I wonder what the record is? That looks really interesting.”
The dogs have been whispering behind my back and sharpening the carving knives. I caught the little one trying to put sleeping pills in my milk. Oh, I’m awake now. The fleabags won’t take me by surpri

Let me get this straight.

Al Gore and Co. say that Mt Kilimanjaro's glaciers are melting, BECAUSE of gorebull warming.

And great lakes ice build up is also from gorebull warming.

The local paper claimed Superior completely froze in 1996, so if it ain’t completely froze it can’t even tie a record for cover - maybe the speed at which it occurred though.

I think they are working on “record for this date,” so it is possible to have a record on this day that doesn’t equal a record on another. day.

Reminds me I need to check the St Clair River the next time I go to Port Huron. My dad (born 1915) claimed it froze over when he was a kid and they were able to walk across the ice to Sarnia, Ontario. I’ve not seen that during my lifetime

My great granddad used to run bootleg alcohol across the Detroit river in the winter.

What a coincidence! My great granddad used to drink bootleg booze that was run across the Detroit River! Grandpa told me that his Dad would go blind for a few days after he got a bellyful of that liquor. Then great grandma would hit him with a mop. I think my son inherited her swing. He was close to 400 his last season.
