I believe the metal cans are coated on the inside to isolate the steel from the brine. 200+ years wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

They measure the shelf life in eons. I don’t think an un-opened can has ever gone bad.

This reminds me of the Oscar Mayer Garlic Bologna that out publix was selling on sale....they got rid of them finally then phased it out...the best tasting bologna I’ve ever had.....watch some genius discontinue the Garlic Spam as well.
