In addition, they warned against confiscatory taxation and deficit spending. Again Jefferson wrote, “…it was immoral for one generation to pass on the results of its extravagance in the form of debts to the next generation….we shall all consider ourselves unauthorized to saddle posterity with our debts, and morally bound to pay them ourselves and consequently within what may be deemed the period of a generation, or the life expectancy of the majority."
The founders also warned that the only way for a nation to prosper was to have equal protection of "rights" and not allow the government to get involved in trying to provide for equal distribution of anything. It was Sam Adams the lawyer, who particularly was concerned about the pooling of property and clearly fought against utopian schemes, such as socialism and communism where the leveling or redistribution of wealth or centralization of ownership of the means of production and distribution are "as visionary and impractical as those which vest all property in the Crown, and in our government unconstitutional."

people became trusting of the gubmint to work on the “big” problems while they worked on their own but as gubmint intruded more into their problems it just became easier and easier for gubmint to fix all problems and so sways elections cycles

I almost put the bogus Cicero quote on a front page of “Foreign Enemies And Traitors.” After all, you can find the quote in some internet wiki sites, so it must be valid? I dug deeper and discovered that actual Cicero scholars have been debunking it for years. Every line ever written by Cicero is catalogued and dated etc, and that quote appears nowhere before the last century.
That is astounding, considering how long I’ve been aware of the quote.
Any idea where it originated?
There are a lot of internet posters that come up with a quote and think folks will more readily believe it and spread it if they falsely attribute it to some famous historical figure. Many quotes attributed to Jefferson, Washington etc are false. There are even false quotes widely attributed to George Carlin, Robin Williams etc.

Yes. We know. We know that pretty much EVERYTHING our current FedGov is doing is completely against the Constitution and the Founding vision for our Country.
Now, what do we do about it? Educate the masses when they would rather not bother? “Get out the vote” with an endless campaign of feckless RINO candidates propped up by insider money and beltway politics? Maybe we can whine about it more on the Internet, as if we haven’t been doing that since the days of Usenet...
I have my thoughts on what needs to be done. I’ve heard it echoed by others with no prompting from me.
It starts by dedicating some of your time to get OFFLINE, leave the cell phone at home, and get out and talk to people. Meet face-to-face. Build a local network of “like minded” folks who can support each other WHEN, not if, things go pear shaped.
Be aware that any group that gains sufficient size/effectiveness will probably include at LEAST one Fed. We’ve all seen the reports from things like the Montana Freemen, Randy Weaver, the Hutaree, etc... and how agents infiltrated them and got them to do stupid sh*t.
But it still needs to happen. We still need to prepare. In fact, if you haven’t started, you are WAY behind the curve. We can’t afford to “bunker down” and isolate ourselves. We need to start doing REAL steps to defend ourselves from what’s coming.
Wow... That rambled a lot more than I’d initially intended to post. Sorry about that...

This thread goes back a way, but here’s what I found.
Taylor Caldwell, in “A Pillar of Iron” (Doubleday 1965),
includes this “famous” speech by Cicero and sites the Roman historian Sullust as the source.
I also found this quote in a speech by Millard F. Caldwell (no relation).http://www.aapsonline.org/brochures/cicero.htm
The interesting thing is Millard Caldwell’s speech, given also in 1965, heavily plagiarizes Mrs. Caldwell’s book. I know because I just finished reading it.

Anyway, thanks for sending me down that rabbit trail. I still don’t know if the quote is Cicero’s, but the book was good.
