I met my husband in 1994. At the time, I was very casually dating two guys (yes, they knew about each other). Neither relationship was going anywhere, and I was frankly tired of the dating scene. I had decided it was time to take some time out, because I clearly was never going to meet the right man.
A busybody friend thought that was the wrong thing to do and encouraged me to go out on another date-—a BLIND one. I did it to shut her up, but my heart wasn’t in it. That is, until I met the guy. We met at a restaurant, and I saw this six-foot-two handsome thing unfold himself from his car. He says he watched me get out of my vehicle and said out loud, “ALL RIGHT!”
So we went in together, and it was like no other first date I’d ever had. It was as though we had known each other forever....we were completely at ease, with none of those first-date uncomfortable silences while you think of something to say. I remember we had both watched Stephen King’s “The Stand” the week before and loved it, LOL.
So that was the beginning. We got married two years later, and I love him more every day. He’s my soulmate and my blessing from God.
The weird thing is, he says he saw me from afar several years before that and wanted to get to know me, but he was living in North Carolina then, and was back in Virginia for only a short visit.
You make my heart happy!
Love you all, even humblegunner, today."
Bump that. FR has the best people on earth. I like Humblegunner, too...he makes me laugh.
Our story is more mundane than romantic in today’s world but very real, nonetheless.
I met my wife while watering the grass in front of the house I lived in. She was out on a walk and just stopped to say hi. We were both in the Air Force, stationed at Holloman AFB near Alamogordo, NM in the mid 70’s, assigned to the hospital but didn’t know each other until that fateful day. We went out for a Dairy Queen ice cream that evening and have been together ever since. Married 6 months later and have now been married going on 40 years now. Three adult children and two grandkids.
We are both retired now and live in rural north central Florida and raise beef cattle. Nothing special planned today. I am trying to finish up building her a greenhouse for her many plants. Best Valentine’s Day gift she’s ever received she said this morning. She will be doing garden and farm chores around the place, as she usually does. I may try to talk her into going to the big city for dinner tonight but she will more than likely prefer to stay at home and heat up some leftovers. No cards, no gifts, just the best love and companionship two people could ever have.
She is the love of my life, my best friend and hardest working lady I have ever met. Wouldn’t ever think about trading her in on a newer model because the original is the best there ever was. I consider myself the luckiest guy alive to have married this gem of a woman. Happy Valentine’s Day.
Woot thanks!
Thanks for this thread - your wife is a lovely lady.
Thank you Marcella, I certainly believe that and I hear it from lots of people. I am truly blessed.
You, also, are a wonderful lady and we are glad to know you. Happy Valentine day.
I’m just a harmless lovable little fuzzball.
Clearly, LOL
I thought that was beautiful and shared with a lot of family and friends today. Thank you!
smiling!
Hearts for you!
This darn monitor - - it got all blurry when I read your post.
Sounds like you were fortunate to have the blessings to meet and bring a wonderful woman into your life; and, she is a lucky lady to have a good man like you in hers!
Happy Valentine’s Day and all life’s blessing to both of you and all my fellow FReepers!
Thank you for sharing that! I’ve shared it with a lot of friends and family members today - - perfect day for doing so!
You’re welcome.
Strange as it may seem, I saw that on a woodworking site a few months ago. It was engraved in a wood project or something. I knew it would be good for today’s thread. Like I said in the post “Mushy is okay today guys” :)
I agree.
