Achieved My Illinois CCW Firearms Certification Today
Self ^ | Feb. 15th 2014 | USConservative

Posted on 02/16/2014 4:06:38 PM PST by usconservative

In Illinois, we're required to have 16 hours Classroom and Firearms training in order to achieve Certification, required to apply for an receive a Conceal/Carry Weapons permit.

Today my wife and I completed my training by achieving my Firearms Certification, scoring 100% on the firearms portion of the test. All shots center mass / kill shots.

Upon getting home this afternoon, we scanned in our Certification paperwork and uploaded to the Illinois State Police, completing filing of our CCW Permits.

I always have a problem when I see those 'new' maps.

For example, this is also Illinois

...1980 Presidential Election. Blue is Reagan...the way it should be colored for your map (ironic, the similarities, isn't it?).

I never did understand why they changed the colors, but I agree, let the Pinkos be RED ;-)

The lump on the river is Madison County near St. Louis I think - tort lawsuit capital of the world. And the one way down south includes Carbondale and SIU...and ironically is just across the river from Cape Girardeau MO, Rush’s home town.

Congrats ... please follow up on line with when you “actually receive” your CCW permits. Not to be a downer but I’m guessing 20 - 30 follow up calls and 9 - 12 months.

Sent mine in about a month ago. Have not heard anything one way or the other yet. The website is very well laid out and easy to use. I had one glitch* that requited calling the help line and was shocked to get knowledgeable and friendly assistance from some young woman. I have not heard of anyone receiving their permit yet.

*You have to use all caps when entering your drivers license info.

Got FL CCW in 2010 and Utah CCW in 2013 (reciprocity in WI). Filed the IL paperwork electronically first week of January. Supposedly, 90 days is expected time we will receive the permits; I’ll believe it when I see it.

My only issue is that I had to download Java to use the State Police website. Since I wasn’t willing to do so due to concerns about Java, I used the PC at a friend’s office to file.

Congratulations to you and your wife. I was able to enlist 16 Chicagoans and 10 suburbanites, including 3 women, to join our ranks.

When I lived near Chicago all the suburbs were Republican territory. The first time I voted I had the privilege to cast a ballot for Don Rumsfeld for congress.

I did a Michigan CPL today. 100% on classroom and the above at the range (note the smiley face) But I am already an NRA instructor and was just shopping the competition. It was a boost to my confidence, as my course exceeds this guy's course. Issued a certificate for Personal Protection in the Home but did not include all the range work. People in the class never even fired a gun before and should have taken Basic Pistol. Michigan requirements are a blend of Basic Pistol and PPITH. When I teach a course for MI CPL they get both (minus the overlap). They get issued the Basic Pistol certificate because most ranges will not allow the shooting exercises required to issued an earned PPITH.

I don’t recall the Constitution though, saying anything about ‘certification’ with regard to any of our other God given rights.

Me either, but here's the deal: If you want to conceal/carry LEGALLY in this state, them's the requirements.

I'd been conceal/carrying since 1996, am glad I'll finally be legal.

When will your actual permit arrive? Have any other folks from IL recieved their permits yet? What are your total costs? How long is the permit good for?

The law states that the Illinois State Police are required to respond with the Conceal/Carry permit within 90 days, or a letter to the applicant explaining why they've been (presumably) denied.

Outside of that I see a few 2A infringements that are unconstitutional.

Based on the 9th Circuit Court's ruling late this past week which struck down several provisions of California's law, I'm sure there'll be changes to Illinois' law as well. (Those changes will require a further loosening of the requirements.)

Personally I find it objectionable to have to pay to exercise my second amendment rights via a $150 "fee" for a CCW permit --- however I can easily afford it and when the fee gets struck down or greatly minimized by a future court ruling, I'll join the class action lawsuit to get my money back.

Until then, I'm still glad I did it despite the nattering naybobs of negativity on this thread.

If you look at the requirements for IL CCW, Military / Ex-Military are required 8 hours classroom to get up to speed on the Illinois Law and range certification.

For anyone WITHOUT military experience, it's a combination of 16 hours classroom & range certification.

Now, the state says "8 hours." The material the state REQUIRES to be taught takes far less than 8 hours. That material is more like 90 minutes. The range certification also takes far less than 8 hours as you're only required to put 21 rounds out of 30 into the target at 35, 30, then 20 feet.

Some CCW Trainers are spending 2-3 hours class time, then an hour or less on the range. That's primarily because those CCW trainers are going by the MINIMUM State requirements for classroom and range training.

I frankly speaking happened to like the fact that the instructor I had (NRA Certified, Ex-Military, Retired State Police) chose to use the NRA Basic Firearms training in his course.

I'm familiar with Article 2 in Lombard -- never been there. You may want to ask what material they're incorporating into their classes and if they're following the state minimum OR if they're adding the NRA Basic Firearms class. If you want the name of the CCW Trainer I used let me know, I'll send that to you in Freepmail. He's in Oak Forest, IL.

Most of the guys I work with have been through, or are going through the process. I've taken two to the range to help them get comfortable with different weapons to encourage them to get their CCW.

I'm working on my youngest brother trying to get him to get his CCW. He works the graveyard shift as a hospital pharmacist in a relatively rural area. Bad things happen in the middle of the night when you're on the road to/from work and I just want him to be able to protect himself.
