Given the number of foreign workers in the country, I suppose it is just a matter of time before somebody takes it home with them.

I wonder if it has anything to do with their pronounced inbreeding. This may be a normally benign virus that really loves to party with their damaged genome.

Since September 2012. That isn’t even an epidemic, is it?

Watch for our current administration to bring them in by the millions.

I wondered the same thing. Sometimes a death is an anomoly, not a harbringer of things to come.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

I have no idea. Public health people watch these things before they reach full epidemic status, I think.

I am just a little hyper aware of bugs travelling internationally because we live in a very international environment, only minutes away from LAX and the port of LA. Anybody who has used the grocery cart at Ralph’s before me could have left germs on it that came from anywhere on the globe.

I have a BIL who is an ornithologist. A few years ago, when bird flu was a concern, he was fitted with his hazmat suit and trained on going into chicken ranches and dealing with a disease situation. He has never needed to use his training, but he’s all ready to go, in case this ever becomes necessary.

I think we will never know how many epidemics have been thwarted by the vigilance of people who watch for outbreaks and make plans to deal with them. It’s a lot safer world than it used to be, in terms of germs, even taking superbugs into account.

Here is some interresting information from Jim West about SARS:
“The orthodox SARS paradigm completely omits and avoids toxicology for good reason: SARS disease symptoms are identical to pesticide and air pollution disease symptoms. And these poisons correlate in time and place with SARS epidemics.
Only virology holds SARS together, and by including toxicology, the virus theory of SARS can be entirely rebutted.”

That URL made me do a “Mondegreen”. Instead of seeing “Weston A. Price”, I saw “west on a price”.
