Football history was made rather quietly over the weekend in Texas.
During an Indoor Football League game between the Texas Revolution and the North Texas Crunch, 36-year-old Jennifer Welter got three carries, making her the first woman to play a non-kicking position in a pro football league.
Welter, who has starred at linebacker for a decade for the Dallas Diamonds of the Women's Football Alliance, got her first carry midway through the third quarter. She took a handoff from two yards out of the end zone and scampered around the left tackle. But the 5-foot-2, 130 pound Welter was met by 6-4, 245-pound defensive lineman Cedric Hearvey for a one-yard loss.
Somehow, Welter was unfazed by the hit.
"I said, 'Is that all you got?'" Welter asked Hearvey. "I didn't want them to think I was intimidated."

Anyone think the 245-pounder hit her with all he had? He did right by doing all he had to do to bring her down for loss.

Uh-huh. Strange that his response was not recorded. Maybe he wasn't even asked as no matter what he said, it would be considered sexist by too many.
Just like Richard Petty's response when asked about Danika Patrick racing NASCAR. If he had said the same thing about a guy, there would be no big deal, but the trolls automatically considered what he said as sexist.
Welterweight
People are celebrating a publicity stunt. Kind of like celebrating the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize for something a person may accomplish. Today’s society sucks.
Just think.... they could have given her the ball two more times and then punted. That would have really been a cause for celebration I guess....
A woman this size playing against full grown professional male football players will suffer a major injury very soon. Even male running backs a lot bigger than her have a very short average playing career - she's just asking for trouble.

Given their field position, two more carries with the same result would have been a safety. Now there's a reason to celebrate, at least if you're a defender.

After the game Welter said her effort wasn't necessarily meant to demonstrate that women can play with men, but to show that women are just as passionate about the sport and deserve a larger stage to showcase their talents.

Let me see. In REAL professional sports, the owner has HIS MONEY on the line. The team has a limited amount of players on team. If a player is injured or hurt, that player has to be replaced, either by another player on the team or a replacement player.
She's 36 years old, when most athletes are looking at retiring from "professional" sports, not start them.
3 times she was given the ball, the offense opened the holes for her, she wasn't fast enough to take advantage of those holes.
She got labeled 3 times. Okay, she got up. Give her the ball 1/2 a dozen more times. Same result. What happens the next week during practice? What happens the next weeks during games? What is she doing week 6? What good is a running back who can't throw an occasional block?
Absolutely correct. When she sustains a particularly hard hit that results in an injury, whoever delivers that hit will be accused of targeting her with the intent of deliberately injuring her.
A more apt description of the position she played would be “Knocked Back”. It does not look to me as if she was tackled on any of those three plays. She was run into and went flying backwards. A 245 pounder versus a 130 pounder is not much of a contest as the three videos show.
