They've spent four years training for the chance to win Winter Olympics gold, so spare a thought for these athletes who have come a cropper on the snow and ice in Sochi.

Britain's Rowan Cheshire has posted a pictured of her injuries on Twitter after becoming the latest freestyle skier to be injured at the Sochi Olympics. Cheshire was knocked unconscious after falling heavily on her face during a training session at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park. The 18 year-old, who is due to compete in the ski halfpipe, is understood to have remained unconscious for several minutes after crashing on the left wall of the pipe before being carried from the course on a stretcher.

These are the highlights of winter sports. LOL.

Just by looking at the photos, you can tell how fast the men's downhill and women's downhill events are. Forget the slalom and giant slalom in alpine skiing ... if you're not going 80+ mph when you wipe out like that, you ain't skiing!

Great Britain's Eve Muirhead slipped on the ice during the women's curling competition against Russia. She is not believed to have injured herself.

Well, she got lucky this time. Curling is a dangerous sport nevertheless...

I like those too, and I’ll add downhill skiing and snowboard cross to my personal list.

Biggest wipeout was NBC interviewer who enjoyed making bode miller sob into the snow for his dead brother and kept that camera on him on the ground.

It was a referee call. I’m not familiar enough with hockey rules to know if it was legit.

The US goal was out of alignment. Nit-pick rule, but all teams agreed to them prior to the Olympics. Russia would have been the first to have cried fowl were the situation reversed. Oshi made a great shot for the US win!

In my opinion the Russians actually did get hosed by that call.

The goal was disallowed because the net had come off of it’s moorings. However, in replays you can clearly see that US goaltender Jonathan Quick is the one who ran into it and dislodged it in the first place. Whether that was deliberate or not, who knows. But he wasted no time pointing at it and making a big deal after Russia had put the puck in the net.

On the other hand it is the job of the officials to notice when the net comes off and to stop play.

It was a fantastic game and I’m sorry that a stupid controversy has tainted it.

The Russian Women’s Curling team is the only reason I am watching Curling. Not one of them look like the commie babes of old. You know, women that looked like they could play on the offensive line of an NFL or College Football team
