You don’t have to be just male or female on Facebook anymore. The social media giant is adding a customizable option with about 50 different terms people can use to identify their gender as well as three preferred pronoun choices: him, her or them.

Facebook said the changes, shared with The Associated Press before the launch on Thursday, initially cover the company’s 159 million monthly users in the U.S. and are aimed at giving people more choices in how they describe themselves, such as androgynous, bi-gender, intersex, gender fluid or transsexual.

It's probably not in place yet or is available now only when you sign up for a new account. I would try to sign up for a new account and see if you have any success. If not it will probably be some time until it's implemented.

But in actuality it's more than fifty names because it's described as 50 new gender terms as well as preferred pronoun choices, so it sounds like there will be more than fifty.

Yes. But there’s no reason to be defensive about it. After all, science in their great capacity as arbiter of truth and justice in the world has determined that we are facing a meteorological disaster with Global Warming as the cause for the eventual catastrophe that will eventually destroy our way of life. Do you feel guilty about that? Absolutely not. So science certainly has neither the answers nor the credibility for what we need to know and in many cases science is as clueless and bankrupt as the last word and authority on everything, anything.
