The Euharlee Police Department plans to release a statement today about the officer-involved shooting that left a 17-year-old Bartow County boy dead.

Sherry Lang, spokesman for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, identified the dead teen as Christopher Roupe on Sunday.

Lang said Roupe was shot when he opened the door with a handgun pointing at two officers who had gone to his residence to serve two probation violation arrest warrants.

“The officer fired one shot, striking Roupe,” she said in an emailed statement.

Euharlee Police Chief Terry Harget declined to name the officers Sunday, but said he expected to provide more details about the incident today.

He said Roupe was not the subject of the warrants.

Officers went to Lot 5 at Eagle View Mobile Home Park, 937 Euharlee Road, at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

“At approximately 7:35 p.m., we got the call that a shot was fired and a subject was down,” Harget said.

The teen was taken to Cartersville Medical Center with a gunshot wound in the chest.

He was pronounced dead at 8:08 p.m., according to Deputy Coroner Brian Irish.

An official cause of death won’t be announced until after an autopsy, which is scheduled for today at the GBI Crime Lab, Irish said.

The cops never identified themselves, and they had guns drawn and ready when the door was opened. Never even gave him an opportunity to put whatever was in his hand down, gun or not.

You should NEVER answer your door for anybody without your hands in the air and kneeling on the ground. Just in case they’re cops. Everybody knows that!

Wow. If true, these cops should be fired.

Can a LEO be charged with negligent homicide in a case like this?

Can one be? In theory, yes

In practice, I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

I know, or at least know of a guy who lives in Euharlee. The part he lives in is really nice. Upper middle class is how I would describe the area.
