Vlad does not look happy in the photo accompanying the photo. If I was a NHL Russian hockey player I would get out of dodge ASAP before Putin confiscates the passports.
The sad thing now about the Olympic hockey tournament is that I don’t really even care who wins, I just don’t want the various Dallas Stars players over there to get hurt. Bring back the amateurs.
I hope not. We need Alexander Semin back in Raleigh.
Guess they weren’t ripped off by the US, eh?
Somebody’s going to Siberia.
I was watching the hockey news coverage and they interviewed a parent of some Eastern European high school hockey player and he said that their goal is to get their son to the NHL in America. He indicated that that is where all the players want to go. They don’t want to play for Russia first?
It was kind of tainted as well, as the Russians should have been awarded that goal. Maybe the US comes back anyway, but we’ll never know.
Doesn’t anyone who plays basketball want to play in the NBA?
Or any soccer player want to play in England, or elsewhere in Europe?
It was also a harbinger of great things to come that first Tuesday in November.
1) I hope there wasn't an American referee involved.
2) If not, how long will it take them to somehow blame the Americans anyway?
3) I hope the NHL has their Russian players in a safe house - Vladi does not look happy.
So true! I have a 5'8" nephew in the Philippines that plays basketball well against 5'10" giants in his peer group. He dreams of starting for an NBA team...I don't have the heart to discourage him, but I don't think he's the second coming of Muggsy Bogues.
Putey Poot looks like me after the juggeared marxist got re-elected.
“Guess they werent ripped off by the US, eh?”
Thats what makes it so great, they don’t even get a second shot at the US...HA!
whether we like it or not the professional players in the Olympics seem to be here to stay. All season long I follow the Red Wings so why when the Olympics come along would I support a team packed with NHL players that play AGAINST my Red Wings? I wanted Russia to win because I love Pavel Datsyuk. Now I’ll cheer on Sweden who have 5 Wings on their roster.
Word is Vlad personally picked the coach. He is surely on the hook for this.
Russia by far played their best game against the US. They really struggled against inferior teams like Slovakia and Norway. Norway particularly stunned me because they are, aside from Mats Zuccarello, a beer league team. Russia just could not score. Maybe that loss to us just took all the wind out of their sails.
Once again Alexander Ovechkin was absolutely M.I.A.
I googled the Russian coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov. He coached and played for HC Dynamo Moscow. The club was sponsored by the KGB. No wonder Vlad picked him.
He was also on the losing team in that 1980 Miracle on Ice game, and went on to be an assistant coach for 4 NHL teams.
Probably why Vlad picked him. Some combo of revenge for 1980 and a guy who should know the NHL quite intimately.
As long as it's not Ovechkin - the Caps need him back!
USA versus Czech Republic later today?
Did anyone see the late night Bob Costos interview with a blond and a guy in a FAIL spotted jacket? Who was that guy?
Not according to the Olympic rules!!
No, but I did see them interview 79 year old Vladimir Posner about their loss to the US.
He said, "When I was growing up, there were three horror films I saw from the West; A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday The 13th and Miracle On Ice."
Latvia has ONE NHL player.
They almost pulled a Herb Brooks on us all.
“It was kind of tainted as well, as the Russians should have been awarded that goal. Maybe the US comes back anyway, but well never know.”
“Tainted” because the olympic officials actually complied with the rules? That’s ironic.
